Sunset Ridge Ministry House

In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.
Isaiah 30:15

Joe  DeAngelo at the Front Door

Too much noise pollution. Radios. Television. iPods. Cell phones. Intercoms. We've forgotten the quiet pastures and still waters that are so necessary for the cultivation of the soul. That is why we are developing "Glory Ridge Ministry House" in a development called "Sunset Ridge", where the sunsets are breath-taking!  A retreat from the world on 6 acres
surrounded by thousands of acres of forest, occupied by wild-life, owned by the US Army Corp of Engineers.

We hope to minister to Ministers, Missionaries on sabbatical and those who need quiet rest.
Sometimes we need to turn down the volume of everything else, for the Bible tells us to be still and know that He is God. When we take time to be alone with Him, He can speak to us in that still, small voice so needed by our hearts. Everyone needs a quiet place for the Lord to speak. Have you found a quiet spot for the Lord today?
It is not always easy to simply step aside into solitude and rest and quietness. But unless you learn how, your entire growth in God will be endangered.

Joe designed and Built this house with his own hands  for Ministry,
along with his son, Michael DeAngelo, and friend Frank Outterski.

Many hands helped.
Joel Trout for many hours on the ROOF,
Naomi Hall who stained for days along with our daughter Maria, son Mike and Joel,  Steve Garber and Crew who baled us out when out our lead builder quit on day 10 and left us roofless and not a clue how to continue. Talk about tears and prayers!  Weird thing about it ALL was the Lord gave me a dream 2 months before that this guy didn't know how to build the roof system! Joe confronted him and he claimed he DID know and then walked out when it was to be done.  But Steve came in and showed us how to get it done!
Steve has blessed me twice in my life. The first time I was with his wife when she delivered a 10 lb boy at home !   That boy was also on the roof helping!
Then their was "Pirate Joe".
We were desperate for help the first week and despite 106 degree weather,  Pirate Joe and Andy came to work for us.  I had gone to a local greasy-spoon restaurant
and asked the help if they knew guys needing work.  That day was another God-send for all of us!  Pirate Joe was immediately nick-named  by us from his multiple piercings.           He was on house arrest and VERY grateful for a job. He worked 12 hours a day and we taught him a new trade. He was mega talented and added many fine ideas to the task!
Andy was his cousin and called Joe and I "Mom and Dad" after the first few days.   I'm surprised he stayed because I pumped scripture into him 12 hours a day.

Larry and Jean Cole put Joe and I up for MONTHS on weekend nights.  I can't tell you how wonderful these 2 people have been to us!
Last, but not least this site is dedicated to our dear friend, JAY HOBBS who not only helped roof THIS house, but helped us roof our last cabin that was sold and
the gain put into this dream.  Jay was very ill when he helped put on this roof in the scalding summer of 2006, but he never said a word.  He just drank his non-alcoholic beers and kept on working.  Jay found the Lord during this time and went to be with HIM after a pancreatic tumor had him hospitalized 83 days after horrific Whipple Surgery. You in the medical field know how BAD it is. He was in surgery 7 am-10pm the FIRST day and they continued the next day 7am -2pm.   Jay was 74.   Jay was to go home Sept. 26th and pneumonia took him within 24 hours on Sept. 26th, 2007.  He leaves behind sweet wife named Margie.  Margie and Jay owned my late dog, Yoko"  (Stymies mother) and after she died
I gave them another pup whom they loved.  Jay was heart broke when Yoko died and now they are together again.   Jay's son, Kirt, came and sheet rocked some rooms for us
even during the time Jay was hospitalized.  We miss Jay.  He was Joe's fishing buddy when not on the roof.  One day we will meet again in Heaven.

Thanks to all the help at GLORY RIDGE... ESPECIALLY SHELIA SLADE who whelped my dogs while I was gone many a day and
stayed up many a night with dogs having pups. There was many 150 mile trips to the vet in bad weather. Shelia never wanted a THING in return.
How many people have friends like THAT?  No one has ever been as wonderful to me as her.  I hope God blesses her Yorkie/Maltese business
with all He has!   www.kingdompups.com    To my daughter and son-in-law and granddaughters, Grace and Glorianna for making sure the dogs got loved
when "Nan" was gone building.

Special Thanks to Chris Stockton (fireplace designer still in under construction) for the knowledge and skill, ideas and BOBCAT.

There were neighbors who came, one  with a tractor to make loading 46 squares of shingles on the roof.  Ones who gave us water.
Ones who came to encourage us.  Ones who came to rescue me after I had a wreck with a trailer overloaded with wood.
If I left anyone out, it's just a brain freeze after many months of go-go-go!
But soon the doors will bring comfort to those who need it.

July 2006-

Fall From the Back Deck

This house was started built in 100 degree weather the last weekend in July 2006
The outside was completed June 2007 except for landscaping and lower back deck.

I entered the house on "Desperate Landscapes"!

Deck has native red cedar railings, milled by Amish locals.

Deck off Master Bedroom that will has spa on it one day.

This deck from below.
Note the concrete bas the A/C unit is sitting on.
It was mixed and poured by hand due to the hill problem.

LOTS of scaffolding was used to side that end.
THANK YOU Christian Fellowship Ministries for the use of your scaffoldings!

Finally Balcony Work     Stairs to Loft

Here is Frank (our #1 Volunteer and closest friend) and Joe assembling the final loft railing. The steel black panels were hand crafted by a local artist. They are a dream we had and found a talented artist to help us design them. They are inset in cedar milled by the Amish locals.  The stairs are also milled by them and built by them. Notice there are no cut risers. Each log was knotched and set in the 2 logs that hold them up.  The top rail and and banister are next to finish.
The stairs took 2 1/2 days to build. Sanding and finishing took another 3 days.  WELL worth it. They are like furniture.  Please remove shoes to enter the loft with a view that is breathtaking!

 THE clock

The switch plates and lights are Deer  antlers, so why not the clock?   Deer are plentiful  on the Ridge and 7 AM and 7 PM, you may see HERDS in front of the house.

Joe made the rock for the fireplace out of molds and then rocked it with the help of  Chris Stockton (left, BEFORE rock). Joe sells the rock, if you need some!
Wood floor being installed in Living Room June 2008 by Joe.

Joe made river rock to go around the jet tub that overlooks the lake.

Builder takes a break on Father's Day 2007!
