am attaching a picture of twix at his graduation from puppy class. we
went to basic education for eight weeks and he's learned quite a lot. he
is a very well-behaved little tzu and quite the fast learner. i
have heard people say that shih tzu aren't the brightest, but this
little boy is proving them wrong. he learned "sit",
"down" and even "wait" in a couple of days, much
faster than the rest of his class. he is such a cutie and a good boy
that my mom, who was dead set against me getting a house dog, has fallen
head over heels with twix. she says that you couldn't even tell there is
a dog in the house, being that he hardly ever barks (and people say that
small dogs are automatically yappers - NOT!!) and doesn't shed. we
visited jody's family for christmas and someone from his family is
allergic to dogs. imagine their surprise when twix didn't cause a single
sneeze or snifle from that person. it's true...shih tzus rule! they are
simply the best breed around for house dogs. and thank YOU for breeding
such top-quality ones!

Hi Karen,
I
got Rusty today!!!! We are very excited and even more pleased with
him. He is gorgeous.
I have already had many people ask me where I got him. I have
referred all of them to your website. Well, I have to get back to
Rusty, (He wants to play). I will talk to you later. Thanks
again.

Hi
Karen,
THANK YOU for my sweet little Frodo!!!! He is perfect. The 5 hour flight
didn’t seem to phase him. He was so eager to
be held and we are happily on our way to spoiling him rotten! I’m in
love……J
Thanks for sending such a healthy, CUTE, well-adjusted little pup!
He has PERFECTLY
straight eyes…why was I worried? Frodo was as quiet as a mouse all
night. Has taken to whimpering a bit because he just LOVES all the
attention we give him and when we put him in the playpen to eat he
wants people more than food. But he is eating well, peeing on the
newspaper and we are so smitten with him. He hasn’t barked even once. I
gave him a bath, used the blow drier and he wasn’t phased! My husband
got out the hair clippers so he could get used to the sound and he had no
problem with that either. He’s amazing!! Thanks again.

Hi
Karen,
Gizmo arrived safely, he is just adorable. We all love him so much.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Karen -
Teddy is an absolute doll baby. His little face is adorable and his
coat is awesome!
We all love him
already. He's doing well - eating fine and he goes pee outside
everytime that I take him out. He's a little cuddler too.
Thanks,
Lucia

Karen,
Little Cooper arrived yesterday in Nashville right on time. I got
initiated immediately- the first thing he did was to pee on me!!!!!!
Good thing I was wearing a rain coat! He is just absolutely
adorable!!!!!! Believe it or not he was wagging his little tail as
the airline employee was bringing him into the airport! He is sooo
rambunctious!
Just wanted to let you know he arrived safely.
Thanks a bunch!

Dear Karen,
Our little Magnolia (Maggie) is absolutely darling!! She is full of Joy
and Mischief, and keeps us laughing day and night.
At 11 weeks, she is already running the house and is
quite aware of her own cuteness. The whole neighborhood
is in love with her -- and she welcomes all the attention. Thank
you for such a precious puppy. You were absolutely right; she is a spitfire--very
bubbly and very cuddly too. She is feisty: after a
bath and subsequent blow-drying, (which she did NOT like!)
she trotted up to the hairdryer two days later, and gave it a piece
of her mind!! She is so smart and very brave -- she was
telling that nasty hairdryer exactly what she
thought of it! Karen, thanks again for all you and
Sheila did to breed, raise and ship such an adorable
love-bug! We love her. God bless you!Paige, Michael, Marshall and Maggie

Hello, Karen:
Glory Ridge's Murphy Mac (Murphy) is thriving....at 4 months he goes to the front
door and gives us a quick look.
...He is pretty good at sit, stay, and down, although "down'
usually evokes a little bark, accompanied by a little animated head movement.
He managed to bring the cops to the house last week.
If we go out, we leave him in a 6'X4' playpen, which is 3' high in the kitchen.
His crate is in the pen. We set the house security system, bypassing the motion
sensor that covers the family room and kitchen.
Clever Glory Ridge shih-tzu that he is, figured he could jump up on the roof of
his crate and then launch himself over the top edge of the playpen, which he
did. Falling over the other side, he landed on the family room carpet
without breaking his neck and proudly began to strut thru the house, quickly
triggering the first active motion sensor he passed in front of. The alarm
company called the San Diego Police and then me at work.
Upon arriving home, with the inside alarm blaring continuously, we found a
formerly cocky canine looking a little bewildered in the corner of the family
room.
Best Regards, Jim.
Karen,
You probably don't remember me but I (and my boyfriend back then)
purchased 2 pups in November of 1993. My name was
Sheri Horowitz and my boyfriends name was Tim. I am
now married to someone else but still have my little black
and white girl named China. She is such a wonderful dog. I have SO enjoyed
her all these years. She is almost 9 now - her birthday is 9/28/93.
Anyway, her parents were named "Goldie" I believe
and "Tiger". Do those names sound right?
Anyway, do you have any of their descendants that you currently
breed? Just curious! Thanks again for the wonderful dog. I will send
you a digital picture of our girl in another email. Thanks again!

Hi Karen,
Just wanted to say thank you again for sending us
such a wonderful puppy! Gidget
is the talk of the neighborhood – everyone loves her!
(except our cats, they just seem to tolerate her, but no problems
with that.)
Every time Gidget goes out for a walk, its like kids
come from everywhere. We’ve
noticed that when a child approaches she lies down to allow them to pet
her, yet with adults she tends to take the sitting posture.
Seldom does she bark, and has been very good with the potty thing.
She has had her share of accidents, but all have been our fault and
not hers.
Gidget’s favorite activity seems to be
visiting the other puppy’s in the neighborhood.
This past weekend a neighbor (who has a 4 year old Schnauzer) was
also watching her daughters 8 week old min pin and a 1 year old beagle
invited Gidget and Missy (other neighbors 16 week old cocker spaniel) over
to play. It was puppy
heaven, and Gidget did great with her first big puppy social.
She isn’t much on walks, and we find we have to
carry her to a starting point and then say “go home” and she leads the
way back as fast as she can (usually about 4 houses from home.)
She does have a stubborn streak though.
Puppy classes can’t start soon enough.
Last Thursday was a traumatic day around our home,
and Gidget’s presence made such a difference.
While we were all out in the yard, my son accidentally struck me in
the face with a golf club driving my entire left upper mouth into the
middle of the roof of my mouth and tore my lip off.
The kids got Gidget safely back inside while I was taken to ER and
a neighbor chipped in to watch over the puppy for us (also took care of
the kids). I have a long
recovery ahead of me, but she is making it much easier.
Since I have not been in shape to be primary care giver for her,
she is bonding with all the other family members as well.
She is truly a blessing to our family.
She even has her own web page!
Feel free to check in on it from time to time as I
will try to keep the pictures updated as often as possible.
Hope the summer is finding you and yours well.
Blessings.

Karen,
It's been awhile since I wrote, but I wanted to update you on Tzuzi. Last April I purchased Tzuzi from you. She was and is the cutest little thing. She is now 7 months old and she is such a joy. Last night she hopped up in my lap for her evening grooming and bestowed on me so many little kisses. She loves to romp and play with our bassett hounds and our beagle mix. Our youngest bassett hound is her best canine friend. I remember how worried my husband was about her size next to our bassett hounds, but now even that worry has been eliminated as she scolds them when the two bassett hounds disagree with one another.
She graduates tonight from Petsmart basic training class. In August, she graduated from puppy kindergarten. My hope is to get her a CGC award by spring. She was spayed at the end of August. We are having so much fun with her. We took her down to Branson and Eureka Springs with us in September. Everyone just loves her. She was rarely asked to stay outside of any shop or attraction. Silver Dollar City no longer allows dogs and dogs are not
allowed on the Eureka Springs trams. Those were the only places she was not allowed. Even some cafes welcomed her. They would bring out bowls of water for her. Tzuzi loves to travel and shop with us. She will be traveling with us at the end of November back down to Branson and Eureka Spring for Ozark Mountain Christmas.
Thanks Karen for breeding such wonderful little critters. I recommend your kennel every chance I get.
May God continue to bless you in your endeavor of raising Shih Tzu's and everything else you do.
Sincerely, Gail Malec

This has been a really rough week. My company had clients in the World Trade Center so we've been handling some disaster recovery, and
one of our programmers has a brother missing. He worked on the 95th floor. It has been such a comfort to have my little shih tzu's - Murphy
and Monet here with me. Since I live alone and work from home, I've really appreciated more than ever to have my little "children" here with
me to snuggle with. I think everyone should have several furry friends to help us get through the tough times. Thanks for such wonderful
little loving pups.

Subject: Miss Millicent
Date: Wed, 15 Aug 2001 19:10:36 -0500
From: "Bob & Shirley" <robert@asde.net>
Dear Karen:
Miss Millicent or "Milly" as we call her is the daughter of Michelle Kwan and Redd Butla. She will be 16 months old August 20th. I was
reading all of the letters you have received regarding puppies you have sold so I thought I would add my praise also. I could talk for hours
about her but didn't think you had the time to be bothered with letters. Boy, was I wrong. This is wonderful.
Milly weighs 10 pounds, is very independent but also very smart. She graduated easily from the Canine Classroom for puppies and was, of
course, the most beautiful puppy there. I have sent some pictures to back up my boast. She completed four weeks of basic puppy obedience
training.
She is so pretty. She is gold and white and we have kept her in a short, soft, silky cut since we have had her but since I saw Dottie's picture
(Milly's sister) I think this winter we will let her hair grow out longer.
When Milly was a baby I put her in a back pack and she slept or chewed on biscuits while I mowed the yard. She still loves to help me mow
so we made her a special seat on the rider. You can't get away from her when you start mowing unless you lock her up inside the house and
then she throws such a fit, she eventually gets her way. What does that tell you about her owner? Anyway, she has excellent balance on
the mower, doesn't mind the heat and we're going to video her on the mower and send it to Animal Planet.
Milly has a very soft side when it comes to cats. Miss Kitty had surgery and we brought her home in the carrier and left her there on the
floor while she gradually came to. Milly layed on the floor beside her to keep her company until she was fully awake. Then, later, she taught
Miss Kitty to use the pet door. The cat was coming in and the only way she could get in was through the pet door so I followed Milly each
time she went to the pet door. Finally I caught the two in action. Milly would put her front legs outside the pet door, holding up the flap
until Miss Kitty started in. When it got a little snug, Milly moved on outside and then turned around and came inside. Milly was so happy.
She ran through the house twisting her head and swinging her tail to show me how helpful she was.
She sleeps with us and has a lot of potential for being a night-shift dog. Bob works the 3-11 shift so we go to bed late and sleep late. At
times I think she stays awake all night protecting us and then sleeps in the day. She is much more comfortable upside down when you hold
her and she sleeps on her back. She will roll over on her back when you walk by just to get her tummy rubbed. When she gets tired of
walking she stands on her hind legs and begs with her front paws for you to pick her up and as you hold her in your arms, on her back, she
falls asleep and SNORES.
Your instructions for house-breaking is wonderful. She has been house broken for a long time and I mean TOTALLY housebroken. That is
such a plus. The cardboard box is long gone and she lives like a human.
We are now putting our name and deposit in for a male puppy so Milly can have a brother. If he is as good of a companion as she is, life will
be special. She has two male friends who are Shih-Tzus, Harpo and Brutus but of course, brothers are different.
We can't thank you enough for this little "piece of heaven". Hope you enjoy the pictures I have mailed to you.

Just wanted to let you know that everything went very smoothly, we picked up the puppy at the San Jose airport with no problems. He has captured
everybody's heart that has seen him. I appreciated you changing the airport from Oakland to San Jose, it was much easier to get there. Thanks
again for everything. Your customer service is outstanding.

Hi Karen:
Haven't written for a while. I am the proud Mama of K.C. Chiefs Montana who
will be celebrating his 2nd. birthday on July 30th. He is from the Redd Butla & Southern Belle liter. My husband and I are going to be in Kansas
City for a wedding the weekend of August 4th & 5th. I was wondering how far
you are located from Kansas City. I don't know if we will have the time, but
I would love to meet you, and your human and canine family as well. We just
love KC, he wins hearts very quickly, even for those who are not dog lovers.
He is so comical and sweet. Hope you are all doing well.

From: Buddman393@aol.com
Dear Karen,
Just thought I would give you a little update on Madison. She weighs in at 9 lb. and she loves to eat.. That has not changed since the day
she arrived here. She is still very active and loads of fun. In fact I have
her going to a local doggie day care two days a week so she can exercise and
also meet new friends and help with her socialization with other people. She
loves it and comes home and collapses on the couch. In July she and I will
start some basic training.. We love her company and both Bob and I are glad
we found you and her. Hope you have a great summer and have some time for
some rest. Take care.. Love Chris Budzinsky

Karen - ...
Annie & Katie are wonderful. They love each other so much. Our getting Katie was one of our best decisions
ever. Annie loves her and watches her like she is her baby.
The summer has already arrived here in Texas, and it is so miserably hot today. We decided to get the girls cut
down in "Teddy Bear" cuts. They went to their "salon" this morning, and they look absolutely adorable. Annie -our serious baby - is very self-conscious. She is not very happy with the change right now, but we know she
will love being cooler with the short hair. Katie - our little clown - loves her new hairstyle. They are
wearing matching pink bows today.
Annie celebrated her first birthday last month. We had a party for her, and my parents and grandmother came
out. Our tzu babies are the happiest little things and they bring so much happiness to us and our family.
Attached is a picture of Annie and Katie, taken today. Katie has developed a trick of sitting up on her rear.
She can do it for 20 minutes at a time and is usually sitting like this. We call her our prairie dog. I was lucky to
get her doing it on film, so I hope you get a kick out of this picture.
God bless you and your family, Karen - friends and furbabies included.
~ Cathy Craft
Hi, Karen. We purchased one of the pups from Posh and Redd Butla - Annie. We just wanted to give you an update and send along some photos for
your album. First of all, she has brought more joy and happiness into our life
than anyone can imagine! We never thought we'd recover from losing Maggie last October, but this little "clown" has put the smiles back on our faces. She's just a little pistol, but loves her family (and her extended neighborhood
family), and is doing very well. We even have neighbors call us to see if they
can baby sit for Annie - everyone loves her. And the greatest compliment we could ever receive - "your little dog is so happy!" - is one we receive often.
That makes our hearts sing!
She's very petite with a beautiful face and coat. We've had a couple of professional groomings which
were quite a challenge for Rosalie, the groomer. But Rosalie breeds collies and understands puppies, so she's very patient. We had a tummy problem last week, but it's under control, and other than that no health problems at all.
We did have her spayed the first part of this month, and, although you were kind
enough to go ahead and send Annie's papers with her, I will send you a copy of the bill showing the spay surgery.
Thank you for the wonderful gift that is Annie!! You have our promise that she
will be loved and cared for all her life. I'm attaching some pictures for you.
Best regards,

Subject: A hello from Ling in Connecticut
Date: Sat, 21 Apr 2001 15:02:06 EDT
From: Sugrbmps@aol.com
Dear Karen,
Just thought you'd be amused. Ling has just completed her role in a production of a
school play in which she played the pet of Noah. It seems that he wouldn't
close the ark until his favorite pet was aboard. She held the stage for all
of about 2 minutes during which time she was able to steal the hearts of all
of the kids and the show. Rehearsals lasted for about 2 weeks during which
time I had to keep her in school with me all day even when there was no
rehearsal and I had to teach. However, the kids loved her and consider her a
school mascot. Her conduct was not always admirable, however, as she took to
crying and barking on most occasions when I was out of her sight. I'll leave
it to your imagination to think of a math teacher putting an example on the
board holding a little dog in a travel bag on her arm as she worked.
However, I teach in a private school and all was taken in the proper good
spirit.
Thank you again for our little actress.

. Rooty starts the next part of his training on Tuesday. He is pure joy, and everyone says he is the most beautiful dog
they ever saw, it's not just me.
My daughter, Sarah, is fostering a shih tzu that was rescued. Sweet dog, and
your heart just has to go out to him. He tries so hard to please and just
does not know what to do. Typical shih tzu though, he learns fast and is very
attentive. Had to shave him. He sure is no Glory Ridge dog. I see even more
clearly how extraordinary Rooty is when I look at Rocky (short for Lucky Shamrock, rescued on 3-17) He was matted to the skin and smelled so bad
couldn't stand to be in the van with him. $200 at the vet got him to the
point where I would let him in the house. Vet said he is about a year old.
Someone probably saw a cuddly little puppy at a shop and were not prepared
for the training and grooming. He certainly had not experienced either. They
found the poor guy in the parking lot at the mall. He trembled all night the
first night we had him. We just held him and talked to him. Heartbreaking.
He still gets agitated at night, and we have had to work with him to get him
more comfortable about going outside at night. Rooty is a shih tzu snob! He
was shocked, would not go near him for 2 days. They are physically like day
and night, but that sweet temperament survived and he is going to be a wonderful pet in spite of it all. When we get him trained, he is going to
live with a lovely lady who just lost her husband. Good match. I think he
will go to her about Easter.
I got so preoccupied with Rocky. I forgot to tell you that Rooty has been
spending one afternoon a week at Annie's school. He goes to a class or two a
day and visits the kids. Especially the little primary aged kids. The students in her school are aged 5-21. He is famous over there. Annie of
course is very proud of him. Me too. He is in his element there. Prances
around like he owns the place. He plays with the kids who can play with him
and snuggles the rest. They adore him. He is so patient with hands that take
time to find him. Chokes me up every time we go. It is stunning to think that he is still a baby, what will he be like later? If it is possible for a
dog to be gifted Rooty surely is. I don't even stay with him a lot of times,
he is so well behaved. Many of the kids do better if there is not a strange
person there, so I lay low and Rooty goes to work. He usually comes with me
when I pick Annie up after school too. It is like traveling with Elvis.
EVERYONE knows him. He just does that Shih Tzu prance, tail up, head high.
You would be proud! I think the only possible thing he could learn from the
trainer is to make coffee. Now THAT would make him perfect dog. Wouldn't put
it past him.

Hi Karen
Just wanted to let you know that Ghost is doing great !! She is soooooo o funny! She thinks she
is in charge of everyone! She is soooo cute how she walks around with her nose up in the air.
She thinks she is a big dog. She only barks when she sees another dog, other than that
she really doesn't bark. She is great!!!
She did start getting some spots. A few weeks
ago or so, they are a light gold color. Her
ears and eyes are the same color.
We renamed her Lucy. She comes when we call
her, she sits by the door when she wants to go out. (We have a fenced in yard.) She greets
everyone that comes to our door as a long
lost friend. She wants to be in the middle of what ever action is going on. I don't believe
I could have purchased a better dog. She is wonderful!!

Harley saw the Doc today...and the Doc was really impressed. Of course, all the help flipped over him!
He weighed in at 2.9 lbs and was a little doll during the whole examination. I had given him a bath before the appointment and he
was wonderful...didn't struggle or anything! I couldn't believe it! I have never had a pup take a "bath" so gracefully. Ha!
We are having a great time together! He loves to cuddle and snuggle - Just what we were hoping for! Thanks again!

Subject: A Touch of Golden Sun AKA Sunny

From: NEWMANSINCHRIST@gateway.net
Karen,
Sunny arrived two hours early!! What a pleasant surprise it was to receive
that call. By the time Diamond and I reached the airport to get him, he had
already won the hearts of the cargo personnel. They asked for information on
Glory Ridge which I gladly shared. Hopefully, that will generate even more
business for you.
Karen, the pictures that you have been sending over the past several weeks
were great. Still, I was unprepared for the handsome little face that
greeted me. As soon as I removed him from the crate, he wagged his little
tail and gave me smooches. When Diamond held him (still a bit nervous as
this is her first pet) he laid his little head on her chest and her heart
melted. He is beautiful and so friendly.
He has had several visitors already and he greets each one with tons of
warmth and love. To be so small he has lots of energy and plays for longer
than expected before taking a break. Then, after a short nap, he's ready for
more fun! What a blessing he is! Even my husband, who normally prefers
large pets, is quite taken with Sunny. By the way, Sunny walks around our
home with a "big dog" attitude. We can tell he has NO IDEA he is small.
When it was time to go to bed, Sunny let us know that he missed Noel and his
brothers very much. However, I have this wonderful tape of worship music
combined with the sound of rain. It proved to be good company for him as it
helped him to settle down and rest.
Karen, thanks many times over. He was the perfect gift to give our daughter.
I plan to keep in touch and forward pictures soon!

Dear Karen,
Gary and I met Bob and Karen Moore at the airport and had a nice visit while we waited for our pups. They are really nice people!
The pups are BEAUTIFUL! The pictures on your site are wonderful, but I must say that after seeing the pups....the pictures just
don't do them justice! Harley and Annie are simply gorgeous! The airport employees just had a fit over how gorgeous they were.
I know that this is only the first day, but Harley seems to be the perfect temperment....and just what you had said about your
line. Thank you so-o-o-o-o much!
I don't know how you can keep everything flowing so well, with all you have on your plate. You took our pups and others to the
airport and then birthed a litter the same day! I sure admire your organizational skills and your stamina.
Thank you again for Harley! He has already given us joy and bunches of kisses! I can't thank you enough, Karen!
God bless you for being a dependable, honest breeder!
Your friend, Jan Childs
P.S. The pups arrived safe and sound.
Didn't seem to faze them to fly....no poop to clean up!

Dear Karen - Just wanted to let you know that Annie and Harley made it safe
and sound to Dallas. All four "parents" were there to meet them, and we could not believe how they looked! We all expected a mess, but there they
were, just standing up in the crate, wagging their tails and virtually begging to be taken out and hugged! And clean as a whistle! We must have had
30 cargo area employees around us, everyone wanting to see and pet them.
They caused quite a stir! We've had a tour of our new home, eaten every bite of my lunch, been outside for potty twice and am now taking a nap.
Karen, thank you. She is an absolutely beautiful pup whose pictures did not
do her justice. And we can already tell she is smart, sweet and has a little
spunk! A great combination. We promise she'll be spoiled.
We'll send pictures, and will be adding another Glory Ridge pup to our home
next year.

Karen:
Just wanted to give you a quick update on the kid's & send some pictures
taken about a week ago. Both are doing well. Luddie is fat. This cold, ice & snow doesn't help as far as exercising, plus his food is
high in calories. But he really doesn't feel/look heavy - I can feel his ribs, spine, his rear end is all muscle & no gut - he may actually
just be a larger dog - which is fine with me. He's absolutely the sweetest, most well behaved dog one could ever have. He sometimes
reminds me of a college fraternity man - if he were human, I envision him saying "hey, just love me & by the way can you get me a beer!" He
has really calmed down in the past few months. We're so grateful to have him.
Chu-Chu is now @ 11.5 lb.. & she's getting her shih-tzu face. She is
also so sweet - unlike Ludwig - she's a little conniving - she gets into everything. She loves to help with the laundry, home redecorating, plants, etc. I think you get the picture. He current nick name is
"lumberjack" as she tore a 2 ft. limb off my yucca plant (which had a 3" diameter) & chewed on it! When she's corrected, she rolls on her back, gives you the sweetest smile & wants you to rub her tummy. How could
anyone refuse her? It's hard to stay in the "disciplinarian" mode with her. She's knows how to wrap us around her paw's!

Karen - It was such a pleasure to meet you, Dianna, Maria and Gracie last
Friday! We loved visiting with you all and hope Dianna had a great
birthday!
The car ride to Oklahoma City was a long one. Annie was upset that Katie
was in the car - I think she wanted us to bring Gracie instead! She acted
terrified of Katie and refused to look at Sean or me. When we got to the motel room, Katie romped and played. She really wanted to play with Annie,
but scaredy-cat Annie stayed up on the bed and cautiously watched Katie all
night long. We are amazed at Katie - she has been using her puppy pads since the first night in the motel, she is a wonderful eater (and would eat
Annie's food too if we let her), and she is sleeping through the night!
On Saturday morning, we drove home from OK City. Annie still ignored Katie,
but I would catch her looking at Katie when Katie was asleep. Katie was determined to snuggle with Annie, and she would scoot an inch closer to
Annie who would then scoot an inch further away from her. When we got to the house, Annie's attitude changed quite a bit. She began showing Katie
that this was HER house, HER toys, HER bed, HER everything. Katie is the most patient little thing - she just sat and watched Annie. By Saturday
evening, they began playing with each other off and on. Annie was still unsure of her. Yesterday, they played and played. Katie enjoys grabbing a
mouthful of Annie's hair and letting Annie pull her around the house. They
are becoming more accustomed to each other, and I truly think Annie is happy
to have a friend to play with.
My mom is here visiting, and she said they are having the best time this
morning. They have been playing out in the backyard together. We have only
had a few accidents since getting home - Katie's intentions were good, however! Her aim was a little off and she missed the puppy pads. She is
still sleeping through the night. She is the sweetest little snuggle baby.
We are really enjoying watching her discover her new home and family.
We have a doctor appointment this Saturday, and I will keep you posted on
her weight and development.
We've taken lots of pictures, and we hope to have the photo discs back today
or tomorrow. I will e-mail you some!
Take care, and we hope you have a great week! Thanks for everything, Karen!
You are wonderful!

Dear Karen,
I hope my letter finds you doing well and have a great start to the New
Year. We are sorry it has taken us so long to write and let you know how
the puppy is doing. We want you to know how very happy we are with him. He
is more than we expected! He is just adorable and we couldn't love him more
if we tried. He has one of the most beautiful little faces we have seen in
this breed. We have named him "Patches" because he looks like he has two
patches over his eyes. We cannot believe how smart he is and quickly he
picks up on new things. He learned his name in about two days and in the
few weeks he has been with us, he has learned to fetch a ball (his favorite
game) and only go "potty" on his papers. We have started to teach him to
sit and stay and he seems to be getting the hang of that also! We can't
tell you how much joy he has brought us and how much laughter he is giving
us. Thank you very much for being there and for doing what you do. After
we lost our other little guy this summer we thought our hearts would never
heal, Patches can't replace the other little one we had but has helped us
heal from the lost and then some. We will be happy to recommend your
puppies to anyone who wants some love and happiness in their home. We also
thank you for being so easy and pleasant to work with. We wish you peace and
happiness.

I highly recommend Karen De Angelo and Glory Ridge. My puppy is only 6
months old, but exceptionally healthy and growing nicely. I can't honestly
tell you that size was much of a consideration when choosing him, however I
can tell you that at 6 months he weighs about 7 pounds. Size varies as you
know, depending on the size of the parents. The important thing is that he is
growing properly. His coat is amazing. My daughter is a professional
groomer and she says she rarely sees a coat as beautiful as his. My main goal
when choosing Rudy was his temperament, which is wonderful, and guaranteed by
Glory Ridge. I did not find another breeder who guaranteed temperament as well
as health. If you read my letter to Karen on her site, you know how the vet
reacted to him. I have since had a second vet comment on his health, bite,
and coat. All of these things are a sign of excellent breeding.
The attention Karen gives to her clients is a huge help. She sent us weekly
pictures and was very quick to answer any questions we had.
I have had experience with both males and females of several breeds. I
really do agree with Karen as far as the male temperament is concerned. They
are calmer and easier to train. Rudy has been very easy to train even as a
very young puppy. He is very smart and eager to please. Our trainer also
agrees with the fact that males are well suited to therapy work.
I hope this is of help to you. Please do not hesitate to write back if there
is anything I did not address. I am sure after talking to some of Karen's
clients, you will decide to buy a Glory Ridge dog, please let me know if you
do so I can watch him grow online. We had a lot of fun with that when Rudy
was born.

Hi Karen,
Just found your website and I had to write. (The page looks great!) I got
a pup from you about four years ago when I was a senior at Cornell
University in New York. Snuffy is doing very well and is a happy dog that
has brought my family much joy. Since his homecoming in Ithaca in Jan 97,
Snuffy has been a blessing. After I graduated I had him with me as I
traveled all over the country as a software consultant. He's been all up
and down the east and west coast accompanying me to various clients. In
the summer of '99 I came back home to Texas and snuffy was welcomed into my
family (parents and 2 sisters). Though he was already very obedient, affectionate, and well mannered, knowing how to "Sit",
"Down","Drop","Go to
Bed","Come","Stay", last year "Rollover" and "Up" (beg) were added to his
bag of tricks. He also thinks he's a retriever, loves to play fetch. Snuffy has truely been a blessing to the family. I want to thank you for
producing such a wonderful pet for us.
My mother was a woman who never loved animals and now she can't live
without him. Unfortunatley for me, this has been hard. Last summer, I was
offered a great non-traveling job which required a move to Tampa. Mom has
become so attached to Snuffy, and of course he adores everyone, but has too
developed a sweet spot for mom. When I mentioned that Snuffy was moving out, she objected so strongly. The fact was, Mom could deal with one kid
moving out of state, but not two at the same time. Of course, I could not
leave *and* take Snuffy away from her. Though I am happy that she loves him like one of the kids, it was hard to raise him and then let him go.
The move to Tampa was good for my career but I miss my family, I miss my
puppy. :( So now I am finding myself thinking of getting a new pup. :)
Since I was so pleased with Snuffy and adore the personality of the shih
tzu in general, I wanted to reacquaint myself with you. My has time flown,
I can't believe Snuffy is now four! I do hope that we get reacquainted and
perhaps a new pup can fill my empty heart and home.
Happy New Years!

Karen, I hope you and your loved ones had a wonderful Christmas. Miss Madison is doing great. She was just to the vet
this week and weighs 6 lbs. She is very active and keeps me busy
continuously. She loves to chew and explore with her
mouth but kisses are her true joy. I have taught her to retrieve her special toys and she would do it forever if I let her.
She
has mastered going up the stairs but not down all of them. Housebreaking has been difficult due to the substantial
snow we have here in Chicago.
I recently had a Christmas gathering for my management team and they were crazy with Madison. She looked so cute
with her Christmas bow and collar they couldn't believe it. They kept taking her out of her crate to play and give her
some of the vegetables off the buffet table. She was more than happy to indulge don't you know.
In any event she is doing well. Bob and I are very pleased with her and our hats off to you for breeding such a delightful
puppy. I wish you and your loved ones a Happy New Year. I will keep you up to date on Madison in the near future.
P.S. Your website looks great...

Got the pup just fine, he got in a little early & was so
happy to see us! We are so proud of him, we took him over to myother daughter to see before we came home. Also Gerry (my
husband) & I stop to eat & Gerry & Skoshi played out in the
parking lot. It was so cute!
Skoshi came out of the crate so happy & giving kisses, he
has stole both of our hearts! Gerry is giving him a bath now &
the red shirt you put on him is adorable, I'm washing it now.
Need to go now, a girlfriend is coming over tomorrow & take
a picture with digital camera & I will send you a picture. My
husband says I have Skoshi spoiled already, cause he wants to be
in my lap all the time.
Got any good tips on sleeping for the first few night?

Hi Karen, Sorry I haven't e-mailed sooner. I have been very busy with my new baby and also working overtime this week.
Shelby is wonderful! She is doted upon by three adoring people, me, my Mom, and my husband. Rachael, the collie, is not real
thrilled with her but tolerates her. Nyxie, our indoor cat has fun wrestling with her. The other indoor/outdoor cats totally ignore her.
Shelby has been to the office to meet everyone and promptly initiated our new office carpet. Everyone thought it was cute--after
all, how could anybody get mad at such a sweetheart. She is a natural interior decorator. She has decided that she prefers to
have the kitchen throw rug in the dining room and the bath rug in the hallway. I love her and she'll have the best home a dog could
ever dream of. Will keep in touch now and then. May decide in a year or two to get another little girl.
Thanks again Karen! You're pawsitively a terrific lady and do your best to provide people with quality pets.
Your friend, Lettie
karen
Okay okay, so I'm a little behind in getting you the pictures...
I finally cut Nick
down into a puppy clip but his hair was very long prior to cutting it and I
got some pictures of him looking very chic......I liked it long as his colors
are beautiful but with the puppy clip, I know he's happier and I can see his
eyes so much better.....(no eye white what so ever) and when you look in
those eyeballs.....you melt. I'll have pictures of both hair-dos.
My daughter in Tampa screamed so much for her female to move down there
with her......I finally gave in and let her go. Because Jazz (her dog,
although Mom always paid the maintenance, ha ha) and Maggie (my other
female) had been together for over 4 years.....we didn't want to separate
them and she took them both. Mom bawled like a baby, especially when I came
home from the airport and the house was not full of Shih Tzu. It's just me
and Nick......he's not going anywhere as we are connected at the hip. It's a
lot different with just one. I seem to spoil him so much more. He gets long
walks more often and I even take him hiking with me when I go with friends.
Right now he's conquered a 4 and a half mile hike with a six mile hike to do
this coming weekend. He was conditioned for this as he does get walked
everyday for about two miles. And I've purchased the new doggie back pack so
if he tires before I do, he gets to ride in the pack......(my friends think
I'm weird....I just think Nick is spoiled)......It's so much easier to travel
and do things with one and not three. And when I go over to my friends house
that aren't exactly dog people.....I can bring Nick, but if I had the girls
as well......it would be like I was bringing the whole herd. Before I could
never bring one without the others (favoritism). I miss the girls terribly
though and Nick misses chasing them all over the house. I think though that
Nick loves the extra attention he gets and all the new adventures he has
gotten to experience since. At least when I visit my daughter, I'll get to
see my little ones. And I'm sure Nick will remember them. This is the first
time I've only had one dog since the early 90's. It's different to say the
least .I had someone write to me regarding buying a pup from you.....gave you a
glowing endorsement. One of her questions was, do you get one and let it
grow up before getting another pup or do you get them at the same time. I
explained that there's really no difference raising one or two, except the
time spent on maintenance (bath, grooming etc). She asked most of the right
questions....i.e. buying sight unseen, temperament, coat, etc. Told her that
you stood behind what you said and you're willing to work with someone if
they have something specific in mind. Seemed she was worrying about flying a
pup as well. Explained how Nick was delayed for about 6 hours due to
unexpected weather in Chicago, that you kept in touch with me that evening,
and that Nick arrived, healthy, clean and the delay had bothered me more than
it did Nick. Hope it works out for you.
I'll get you those pics soon, I promise. Even in a puppy clip, he'd still
give Sugar Bear a major run for the money. :)
I know you hear lots of your customers rant
and rave over how terrific their dogs are and I guess I just have to join
them. Nick is just too super. Wish you could just see his face (especially
his eyes)......he melts even the biggest of men. Ha Ha.
Great job on the web site......it's really looking good. So good that
I'm getting the itch again......but I'm trying to stay in control though. Ha
Ha. Don't let the bums out there get you down, it's not worth it. Keep
smiling and thanks again for giving me the only male that I've been able to
live with :) Happy Holidays......Pam

Hi Karen,
I e-mailed you a couple of months ago about getting a new puppy. I have one
of your puppies that I got last year, born September 28, 1999, from Calamity
Jane X Redd Butla. Her name is Baylee. She is a spayed female. I would
like to order another puppy from you because I think it would benefit Baylee
and she is such a good dog that you are the only one I would trust to get
another great dog! She is alone now about 8 hours a day and I think another
puppy would make a good companion for her. She seems to suffer from
seperation anxiety so I'm hoping this will help.
Thank you,

Karen: Both of the dog's are now in their "terrible 2's"
Yesterday Chu-Chu got a hold of my glasses & chewed the lenses. So
guess who now needs new glasses? Last night Ludwig decided he was going to
eat a 5+" chew bone in its entirety - it went straight down!!! I
tried to grab it out of his mouth, but I'm sure you know how dogs are with
something they want - they bite. So, last night at 7:00 we were at the
emergency vet clinic with Luddie. Of course, Luddie had no idea what was
going on, only that he was meeting new people & trying to kiss
everyone. The bone was too large to pass through his lower intestine in
its entirety, we didn't believe it would dissolve & potentially would
face blockage & surgery. So the vet went in & got it out of his
stomach, by having him vomit. If that didn't work then she was going to
take a scope to grab it. It came out fine when he vomited. Needless to
say, we're a little tired
today. But not Ludwig - he was rocking & rolling this AM with his
sister!!! Both
Chu-Chu & Ludwig are just adorable. Their personalities are so
different. Chu-Chu
now weighs 5+ pounds & the horse weighed in last night at 13.3 pounds.
He is SO solid - all muscle. They get along, play wonderfully, kiss each
other & race through the house. What one doesn't think of the other
does. As I said - terrible 2's.
Chu-Chu's colors are really changing. It appears she is going to have some
gray
in her under coat in the areas where its brown. I think she is going to be
beautiful. Ludwigs coat is already heavy & very reddish. He is now at
6 months & is getting
the traditional Shih-Tzu face. He's a people magnet. Chu-Chu is a very
well behaved girl, but not afraid to speak her mind when she wants
something. She's so cute. As I said different personalities, but adorable
in their own way.

Hi, Karen! Annie is growing like a weed - we took her to the vet
last Saturday and she weighed in at 9.01 lbs. (she will be 6 months old
next week)! She still loves her food! She's the most vocal little thing
you've ever heard - in the vet's waiting room, she "talked" to
everyone. She's still telling us what she wants and when she wants it -
when it's time to go outside, there is no goofing around in our house! And
when it's Annie's bedtime, those lights must go out and no talking is
allowed (she sleeps between us in bed). She has the strongest little
personality we've ever seen in a dog - she acts more human than anything.
She loves her toys - her favorite is an old sock with a ball tied in it.
If she wants to play and we're not paying enough attention, she will swing
that sock (or a shoe will do) and bang us in the back of our ankles. The
doctor said she was perfectly healthy - ready to be spayed and ready for
those stubborn baby teeth to come out. (We hope to schedule that
this month so my mom can come and sit with her while she's recovering.)
Everywhere we go, everyone goes crazy over her - I think a lot of people
do a "double take" because of her coloring. My parents are
absolutely crazy about her (I can't imagine how they will be when they
have a two-legged grandchild)! She enjoyed her very first Halloween last
night - she "helped" pass out candy at the front door. We had an
adorable little girl (probably around 2 or 3) stop by - when she saw Annie
she said, "You have a pretty kitty!". Annie cocked her head to
the side, and I could imagine her thinking, "I'm not a kitty! I'm a
furry little kid!" It was really cute, and all of the
trick-or-treaters want to pet the fur baby. We are looking forward to our
second GR baby - we've already settled on a name, "Glory Ridge Kiss
My Kate" (Katie). I just hope Annie doesn't act too bossy (ha-ha). We
definitely plan on driving up to get her so you can hopefully see Annie
again. Warmest regards to you & your family! Cathy

all fell in love with her immediately. She is so fun and so SMART!! She is
already coming to me when I call her... even if she is playing with
something, and that is with only being here four and a half days. She is
doing her "messes" in her "potty box" (we are using
the Litter System you recommended) on her own and her "wets"
with coaching and is just starting to go on her own as well. We have her
in a similar set up like you talk about in your housetraining section.
Instead of a large box we have her in a small room with a baby gate at the
door. The floor is tile so messes don't matter. The floor is plenty warm
and the paper on the floor helps as well. We don't want to let her just
have the run of the house if we can't be watching her... but don't want to
confine her to the crate either. This is ideal where she has some room but
is also confined to an area where she (and our house) are safe. The first
couple of nights we had her in a bigger room and put her in the crate to
sleep. That was a disaster. She cried all night and I didn't want to spoil
her by getting her our and playing with her... it was SO hard not to. The
night we moved her into this situation she cried for a little while in the
night but has been fine since then. She has so much personality. We love
the way she "bounces" when she runs. She loves to wrestle and
will almost always try to go around a toy and get the hand that is holding
it. She is so affectionate. I can't imagine a better natured dog. Thank
you so much for the joy you have sent into our home and family. I am

well (weighed 2.56 pounds) and everyone fell in love with him and we’re
ready to take him home! They were happy I was able to get such a great
little guy since they know how devastated I was when I lost my other dog.
He is doing great with potty training - almost seems to know what he's
supposed to do. Still trying to make friends with my cat - that may take a
while, but he's making progress! He'll be happy to get the female so he
can have a playmate that will play with him but won't run over him. My
niece has a beagle that loves to play and Murphy loves her, but they need
supervision since Murphy's still pretty little. I can hardly wait for him
to get all his shots so I can take him to puppy class and on walks to the

Karen... I just wanted to thank you for the most adorable puppy
possible. Meeko is now 5 1/2 months old and growing like a little weed.. I
keep telling him to stop growing, but it's not working..:) He's done with
all his shots and already weighs 7 lbs. Everyone adores this puppy. My
neighbors stop to play with him everyday and he loves all the attention. I
know in a year, I'll be calling you to get another shih tzu so Meeko has a
little playmate to cause trouble with when I'm at work! I always said I
would never let a dog sleep in my bed, but Meeko sleeps on my bed every
night... I also wanted to thank you Karen, for answering every question
about shih tzu's that I had. You are still answering my questions. now
that I have my puppy...Thank you for meeting me part way so we could get
Meeko, I appreciate that. And, for anyone who checks out the Glory Ridge
Webstite and wants a baby shih tzu of their very own, Karen's puppies are
the very best. Thanks for everything...I'll get a hold of you in the
coming months for another precious baby.... Thanks, Brooke.. Oklahoma

We just got back from taking the puppy to the vet and couldn't wait to
share this with you. The vet walked into the room and said the puppy was
EXACTLY the colors of a root beer float. He's right. Annie burst into
giggles and the puppy formerly known as Desi became Rudy. Then the vet
went on and on about how wonderful he is. Perfect bite, gorgeous coat,
clear eyes, squeaky clean ears, he turned this little fella inside out and
was totally impressed. He loved his color and was dazzled by how thick and
healthy his coat is. He asked me a lot of questions about Glory Ridge and
I shared a lot about what I learned from your website and how you stand
behind your dogs. He said he was impressed with how thorough you were in
assuring the best possible outcome. We talked for 45 minutes! To make the
long story short, he wrote down the kennel name and told me he would
definitely recommend you to people who call him to ask about Shih Tzus. I
told him there was a waiting list and he said to find a breeder with this
kind of commitment to the breed and her clients, is worth whatever the
wait time would be. Anyone serious about making a commitment to a dog
should be willing to wait for a healthy one with a professional behind it.
Pretty high praise for a guy who sees a lot of dogs. He asked about the
price, I told him what your regular prices are and he said he thought it
was a very realistic price. Sick dogs with inherent genetic disorders are
way more expensive the long run. He said he sees a lot of dogs he suspects
the breeder is happy never to see or hear of again once the check clears.
He also was impressed that you guarantee both health and temperament. I
could go on, but suffice to say we were pretty proud of Rudy by the time
we left. Please feel more than welcome to use me as a reference anytime.
Thanks again for everything. I will keep you posted about how he is doing
and about his therapy dog training. That comes later, right now we are
just enjoying his company.

I do plan on getting a friends digital camera for a day or two to take
some so that I can forward them without the hassle. Give me another

that....I show him his half sister on the screen and tell him she ain't

his head hair is dark (with a small white blaze) so I have to make sure I
have good lighting.....I want you to be able to see his eyes......Karen,
he really is gorgeous. I can finally get his hair in a top
knot.....although he doesn't keep it there for very long......Believe
me.....I'll get you a picture......He has this licking problem.....everytime
I go to give him love all he wants to do is lick you......it's almost too
much. :) He's a sweetie though......and god forbidden Mom has to yell
(okay, raise my voice) at him......he can't stand that.....then trys to

Hey all, I trust this picture gets to you. Here is Mish Mish, in our small
yard in Egypt. He has found out that if you chase a cat they really run,
so that is his new quest in life. Up to now he was the one doing the
running as the cats here chased him! It was embarrassing! But he is
growing up and settling in well here. The heat is near 100 everyday and he
is adjusting well to that too. Everyone here loves him and he returns the
favor. We have found only one dry dog food without soy meal in it. It is a
German brand so we will grab a few bags of it (grocery store stocks never
last here). Mish Mish traveled to Egypt great! He adapted to the hand
luggage carrier very well and only fussed at take-off because of the ear
pressure change. During our longest leg of the trip of 11 1/2 hours, he
settled down and slept all the way with no sedatives needed. So he is now
a world traveler and an accomplished one at that! God bless you all

Hi Karen, I thought I would drop you a line and let you know how
"Jack and Jill" are doing. First I would like to thank you again
for two extremely loving and affectionate puppies. I had no idea that
puppies could be so fulfilling, secondly that two puppies from two
different litters could be so alike in their habits and temperment. Jack
is trying to rule the roost, but Jill I believe is the "Queen of the
Roost" as she tends to pin Jack to the floor to show him who is in
charge. They will play until they are so exhausted and then cuddle up for
a mid morning or afternoon nap. They sleep through the night and you would
not even know that they here with us. Our Vet and his assistants just
loved them. I thought I was going to have to call in a hostage negotiator
in order to get them out of our groomer's business. She made several
statements to us, that she could not believe how easy they were to groom
and they were so laid back. She thought everyone needed two little half
pints like "Jack and Jill." Thanks for making our family
complete once again! If you need a reference please have the perspective

Hello Karen, We are really enjoying our puppy. He went to the vet
today. He now is weighing 3LB.6OZ. He is now 13 weeks old. He has been on
Eukanuba puppy small bites for about 2 weeks. He is having no problems
with it. He had a couple of shots, which he did not enjoy at all. He is
getting along with our Pomeranian and Persian cat very well. It took a
little while for our dog to get use to him. Now they just play and play
with each other. The assistants at the vet really love his color. The vet
keeps telling me that he is such a good puppy. Of course, you and I
already know that. I still look at your website everyday. It is really
enjoyable. I have attached some photos that shows him at 10 weeks. I still
have to get weeks 11 and 12 developed. Every time I try to take a picture
of him he will lie down. I am using the TY Basset Hound to show his
growth. I take a picture of him each week with the Beanie. Thanks for such
a beautiful baby. He goes back to the vet in 4 weeks. I will keep you
updated on his growth. Melody Munlin Note: His pictures are in Photo

The following letter was written by a

me. Subject; Re: just some shih tzu questions. Date: Tue, 25
Jul 2000 15:08:37 EDT From: Johnrpass@aol.com CC: karen@gloryridge.com Received
your e-mail inquiring about Shih Tzu’s & Glory Ridge puppies. Shih
Tzu’s are among the best natured breeds of dogs. They are extremely
people oriented & affectionate. Because of their size they are perfect
for small apartment owners like yourself. They If you keep them cut down,
their coats are very easy to take care of as they are non-shedding.
Keeping them in full dripping coat does require regular bathing &
grooming & can be a lot of work that is why most people prefer to cut
them down. I raised & showed a number of different breeds over the
years including Yorkies, beagles & German Shepherds, & Shih Tzu’s
by far have the best temperaments. They are active & very, very happy
dogs. They can be a little difficult to housebreak compared to poodles or
German Shephards, for example, but no more so than Yorkies. A lot
depends on how often you're there to take them out in the early weeks.
I haven't had any problems with puppies crying at night. I crate
each of mine each evening at bedtime. They like it and feel very secure in
their own little "cave". The first couple nights may be a little
traumatic for them having just left the company of their mom &
siblings, but mine adapted quickly to the crates. Shih Tzu’s do bark,
but mostly when they're playing. They're not like beagles that like to
bark just for the sake of barking. I wouldn't expect them to cause noise
problems in an apt. I have purchased 3 pups from Glory Ridge & plan to
get another. I have been completely satisfied with Karen's puppies. Karen
stands behind her puppies & you can believe what she says. I wouldn't
be getting another from her if I wasn't completely happy. She's also been
helpful in answering questions for me after I receive them. One of the
most remarkable things to me was to go to the airport to pick up my puppy
expecting it to be scared & timid after the long trip to California,
& to find it wagging its tail & licking my face when I received
it. What great temperaments her pups have! Shipping was no problem. Hope
this answers your questions. Feel free to contact me if you have any
others. By the way, you're correct, Phobe & Chandler are named after
the "Friends" characters. I'm hoping soon to get a little
"Joey" or "Monica" from Karen.

Hi Karen! ...Just wanted to tell you that Little Monk is the
best! We have been going to obedience school, and he is the cutest and
smartest boy in his class! He will come, sit, stay, "watch me",
and "walk with me" without any hesitation. Last night, we taught
him the command "down" for lying down and he did it 10times in
row. The teacher was even impressed. He got his first haircut and looks
adorable...puppy cut...looks like he regressed about a month! Beautiful
coat and loving disposition. Housebreaking is coming along great...still
potties on the floor at times, but does the other outside religiously. We
are with him most all the time, and he has tons of friends that come over.
He loves car rides, and jumps into my car seat whenever the door is open.
I almost squished him the other day...didn't know he was under me! He has
brought such joy to our lives and is the quality I expected and paid for.
Just wanted to share with you that he is loving it here, and has friends
and admirers wherever we go. Little Monk was destined to be mine...I feel
that in my heart! I can't even describe how much he fills me up. He loves
me, too. Follows me every little place I go. Great fun! Take care...hope
things are going well. I'll keep working on getting local business! It's
so easy to talk about Little Monk. He turns heads everyplace we
go! Fondly, Connie Orman

Karen, Annie is such a cutie pie. We've been without TV for a week,
but she's kept us entertained the entire time. She loves all her toys and
really enjoys playing out in her backyard. She has the sweetest
expressions, and everywhere we go everyone comments on her. I don't think
she's letting her ego soar too much, though. Do all shih-tzu puppies jump
and hop like she does? We all laugh constantly while she's awake. My mom
and dad have two dogs (Heinz 57 brand) who she really loves to play with.
They are older so they lay on the grass or carpet and Annie hops over them
back and forth. They are also tall, and she likes running underneath them
to surprise them. Thank you for everything, Karen. It's very obvious that
Annie is healthy and happy - and that for two months, she was raised in a

Hi Karen, How are things at Glory Ridge? I just wanted to drop you a
line and let you know that Shelby is doing just great. She had her 1-year
old birthday a couple of weeks ago. She is still very much puppy though. I
am so glad we got her to keep our other shih tzu occupied. They are such
good friends. Here are a couple of pictures for you. I do keep her hair
cut short, as we live in a rural area and she is constantly bringing in
leaves, grass, etc in her coat when it is full length. Her coat is
incredibly thick, her groomer says it is the most luxurious coat she has
ever felt. It is so thick that she has to have it trimmed every 3 weeks!
Well, as you can tell from the pictures below she is incredibly spoiled.
The "baby" picture of her was my nephews doings. Needless to say
his parents didn't think he needed his pacifier after this, so they told
him that it is Shelby's now, and now he has been weaned from it. Everyone
needs a shih tzu in their life! Let me know what you think of her now that
she is over a year old. Kudos on this one. Paws, Johnna NOTE:

handled the trip home extremely well. It ended up being about a 3.5-hour

himself quite at home and has been a really good boy. Is already showing
signs that he knows what going to potty outside means. Goes directly to
the door and looks up at us. And if he can't make it, does it on the paper

Hi Karen, We got a scanner and I'm having so much fun! Here are
a couple of pictures for your viewing pleasure. I know that Ceesha is not
a Glory Ridge purchased dog, but she comes from a stud you used a long
time ago, CH Ric Shaw's Hi Clas Captivator. Anyhow, enjoy the pictures of
Ceesha and Shelby, bath time picture is especially cute. I will send an
updated picture of Shelby once I get a good one taken and scanned. The
girls only have two weeks until their CGC test. Keep your fingers crossed.
Shelby is really good in class, but once we leave she is very onry. She is
wearing a micro-prong collar during class time and practice time at home,
probably why she is so good. Since Ceesha is eight years old we really
didn't expect her to care about the class too much but she really enjoys
it. Remember she is very shy around other animals, this has helped
tremendously along with little sis Shelby of course. The class is filled
with all sorts of labs, german shepherds, schnauzers, and your typical
"popularity" dog, but our two shih-tzu's are by far the smartest
kids in the class. I don't just say that as a proud momma, but everyone
comments on how well they continue to do and they are "the teacher's
pets" They pick up on the voice commands and the hand signals like
you would not believe. Plus they are not obnoxious like some of the other
dogs, nor have they ever relieved themselves during class. Okay, enough of
me being a proud mother, but I still believe that the shih tzu is one of
the smartest breeds. Enjoy these pictures and write back sometime
when you can. Paws, Johnna

Karen, Just have to let you know...this little guy is doing
great...I take him for walks around the neighborhood and everyone wants
him (after the waiting I did.....figure the odds). He really is cute as a
button, listens well and looks like his teeth are coming in perfectly. I'm
kind of anxious for him to mature (not really...he's so good as a pup I
don't want puppy hood to go too fast) only because I think bred with my
one female.... I might just be lucky enough to get one of the pups into
the ring. I think the combination will be perfect...they get plenty.... of
walks and fun time...and of course bed time...spoil ninnies. Well see how
it all works. I should try to get him into a puppy match just to see what
these judges would say. Anyways, by the time I can have a litter...I will
have gotten my degree and then I want to devote a lot of time to getting
one of my own in the ring. One strange thing with Nick...he loves going
behind the washer in the laundry room to take a nap? I give a nice big
comfortable bed and he chooses behind the dryer. What's up with that? If
that's his only flaw (I call it a flaw only cause he's not cuddling with
me) than I consider myself extremely lucky. I waited forever for a
solid.....especially the black mask gold.....you never had them for quite
some time......now you have a bunch of them. Too funny. That's okay. .
wouldn’t trade mine for the world... even as he enters his mischief
stage (what a handful but listens well to No...I just have to say it often
:) ) Typical male pup...but his love is right on. I've seen two of yours
Karen with the temperaments that I have to have in my dogs.... do you ever
have one that's just a tad hyper...or all they all pretty much mellow (but
playful) sweets? Pam

Dear Karen: Thought you would like to know we
drove to Columbus yesterday, purchased Atonya Malones puppy and now he is
in Indiana. He is a delight and we are enjoying him. He is a little
character, but then aren't all Shih Tzu. He and our almost 13 year old
Cocker are getting along great. He enjoys riding and the trip home,
approximately 150 miles was uneventful. Thank you for giving us Atonya's
name. She seemed pleasant and am sure the puppy had not been mistreated.
What do you suggest for chewing? He loves carrying around a large ball,
and a squeaky person, both bigger than he is. We also have a nylon wish
bone...Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Valeria
Simbro
Dear Karen Thank you for replying. He is
playing with toys but can tell his teeth are bothering him. He is not
chewing anything of substance. Just thought we could help him and glad to
know that we can use rawhide. We are using Eukanuba puppy small
breed food. Does this cause a dark stool. He is so active and playful and
extremely good. Except for night he has the run of the house, think he
most likely was in a crate, but do not know this. If you remember what you
told me Atonya paid you.... She charged us $100.00 less. Sorry she was
unkind because as far as we can determine the puppy is a delight. He has
mastered getting up on the step outside.
Dear Karen: Thank you for
reassuring us. I should have said he has the run of the house when one of
the three of us is home. As far as housebreaking he is doing pretty well.
But, then, all of us are seeing that he gets out very often. We have a
fenced yard, but still go out with him. Truly he is loved! And our Cocker
who has been so hyper since the death in June of our other Shih Tzu is
calm once again. A concern we had...The Lord surely takes care of us and
his creatures. We will take pictures - at times we wish we had a camcorder
as he is a funny little puppy. Has personality PLUS.. Thank you for
caring... Have a blessed week! Valeria

Update on Shelby, we have completed week 4 of the 6 week
beginner obedience class. She is doing very well, and all the trainers say
that I should continue with her into obedience trials. Makes Mommy so
PROUD. Last week one of the trainers was working on teaching her to walk
in heel position using a dowel rod attached to her collar - I'm sure you
know what I'm talking about. I wish I could video her and show you it is
so cute she just struts her stuff like nobody's business. After the
Advanced Beginner class she will take the Canine Good Citizen test at the
end. I will decide at that point if I want to continue with her and go
into Pre-Novice and on. What do you think? She is almost 10 months old and
her adult weight turns out to be 11.5 pounds, exactly that of my older
shih tzu, but she is still smaller size wise. She is perfect! I would
venture to guess that if she was smaller she wouldn't be as able to get on
and off the sofa and bed by herself and maybe not go up stairs to well,
and frankly I don't want to have to "baby" her because of size.
I wish others would see the rewards of a greatly bred shih tzu as compared
to a poorly bred smaller shih Tzu, size is not what counts in this breed.
Well, write back when you can, we are all doing great and hope you and
yours are doing great also. By the way, good for you for taking weekend
breaks finally! Have a great one.

I initially purchased my first Shih Tzu from Karen DeAngelo several
years ago. You might ask why in the world I would contact someone in
Missouri when there are so many local breeders in southern California. The
reason was that I was looking for a particular color. I was somewhat
skeptical about purchasing a pup from someone so far away sight unseen
(pictures never tell the full story) & without having the opportunity
to see the parents. Karen was wonderful about answering my questions &
guaranteeing the pup's health. She made arrangements for someone she knows
to deliver the pup to me to cut shipping expenses. I couldn't have been
happier with "Chandler" (the name I gave my pup). He is now
about 2 years old & gorgeous, dripping in coat. While it has taken
work to grow his coat to the length it is, I also recognize that I
couldn't have done it if Chandler didn't have the genes to produce it. My
point is that Karen obviously takes great efforts to produce dogs of high
quality. I was so happy with Chandler I purchased my second (a girl) from
her about 6 months later. I was equally thrilled with Phoebe who is now
about 14 months old. She is beautiful. About a month ago I purchased my
third pup from karen. This time we ran into some weather difficulties
which delayed the shipping awhile. Karen was excellent about keeping me
informed as she knew I was eager to receive her as soon as possible.
Bottom line: I have purchased 3 pups from Karen because of the quality of
her dogs & the way she treats her customers. She is very reputable
& I would without reservation recommend her to someone looking to
purchase a pup based on my own personal experience with her.

Dear Karen:
Well, Scout is almost nine months old now and
our family is so happy to have him as the newest addition. It seems as
though he has always been a part of our family. He is completely
housebroken and tells us very clearly when he has to go outside. He tugs
on your pant leg and starts to bark. When you ask him if he would like to
go for a walk he dances around like he's gone crazy. He also loves to go
in the car. When I take my car keys out, he's the first one to the door.
He is learning all kinds of tricks that the children have taught him. This
winter we have seen our share of snow and then some. I didn't know how
Scout would handle his first snow fall but soon found out that he LOVES
snow. I have to chase after him to get back in the house. After I bring
him in I literally have to put him in the sink and run warm water over him
to melt off the snow that clings to him. Last time, I just had him dry and
one of the kids opened the door and out he ran again. He is such a rascal
but when you look at that happy little face, it is impossible to be angry
with him, after all, he does know how to have a good time. Anne Dillon

Hi Karen!! I see that you are back from your much needed vacation. I
hope you had a blast. "Scout" is doing great. She is the
sweetest thing. She is so smart. "Toi" and her really get
along great. I was really happy to see "Toi" adjust so quickly.
She is doing really good with "potty" training. She loves to go
outside, so she learned real quick that if she goes to the back door she
will be able to go out. Surprisingly enough she loves her playpen. She
will cry to be put in it when she is tired. I will send you some pictures
soon. Thank you so much for an absolutely precious puppy. We love her to
death. Teresa
This following reference is from an Attorney
in Washington, DC: "My
mother has two of your Shih Tzu’s and I
have one. They are all gorgeous, healthy females. You knew we
liked them small and you found them for us in your litters. One of
them, the littlest, is also solid red. All three of
these dogs have brought us great joy with their
sweetness and playfulness. They blend in so well with
families and also make pretty feisty watchdogs. You have been such a
pleasure to know and you really stay with your pups.
You are honest and reliable. I would be happy to stand as a
reference for you anytime." Jana S. DeSirgh

Karen, … We have recommended you to numerous people as having the
most beautiful Shih-Tzu's we've ever seen. Our little "Koby" is
the nicest little guy in the world! His grandfather is Whirling Thunder,
and we think he's probably an exact copy - he looks just like his
grandfather's picture and has a great personality! . He's pretty much full
grown now at 10 lbs., but we recognize that he'll probably get a little
heavier. It's like asking a 18 year not to gain any more weight! We'll
send pictures as soon as we get to a scanner. We just returned home from a
two-week vacation in Florida with him and everyone who stopped us while
walking said what a beautiful dog he was and what a great coat! He's
quality all the way! People just couldn't help themselves, he's sooo
beautiful. Keep up the good work - ethical breeders are extremely
important! Penny & Roger

Dear Karen, ... By the way my Holly is doing so well as a therapy dog.
She has become a real favorite at the hospital. She got dressed up for
Halloween, pink tutu, and big bows on her ears. Christmas brought a full
Santa suit, she even made the big time (ha, ha) wearing her Santa
suite by being shown on 2 TV stations here in town. She wouldn't think of
wearing that get-up at home, in fact will sit down in the middle of the
floor and refuse to budge, but any time I get her dressed up for the
hospital, she's ready to go. It is so interesting to watch her work, she
has a real sense about the patients who really are in need of her special
kind of love. Most of the time she will sit very politely on the bed and
let the patients pet her, and then we'll go into another room and she
immediately moves up into their arms lays her head down on their chest or
under their chin and just watches them with those wonderful expressive
eyes. Those patients, as we chat, are usually people in terrible crises or
those who are just forgotten and lonely. What a blessing she
is, and what a blessing the therapy work has been to me.
Will be waiting to hear from you. Sharon

From: Donna Hi Karen! This is Donna McCollough from Texas. I bought a
puppy from you, out of Scarlet and Ishi, last January. We named here
Sophie. She is so wonderful and has truly become a part of our
family. I have several great pictures of her if you would like one. She is
loved very much and would disagree with anyone who told her she was a dog.
Her personality is sweet and loves our kids. Our kitty Max has recently
passed away and Sophie has missed him a great deal. She liked him much
more than he liked her but she never knew that. She has now taken his
sleeping spot on the couch and still looks for him in the mornings. Your
granddaughter is darling. It sounds like your having a great time with
her. Thanks for your time and have a great evening. Donna

Karen, just a little update on our girl Sadie. She is without a doubt
the best little dog in the world. She is just the sweetest little thing in
the world. My groomers say that she has the most wonderful coat. It never
seems to mat even though we're not very good about brushing her. She very
rarely barks, only when she wants one of her brothers to play with her.
She has been easy to potty train and we are going to get her into
obedience school soon. I will always buy puppies from you. Her personality
is the best and she has never cried, even on her first night. Please feel
free to use me as a reference to any potential buyers. By far, you breed
the best Shih Tzu's in the world. Thanks for such a special little girl!
To all potential buyer's, Karen's daughter drove our little girl into KC
so my husband and I could pick her up. Now I think that is going above and
beyond!! I wouldn't buy a puppy from anybody except Karen.
Hopefully I will be contacting you within the next year to get
another one. Thank You, Sherri Brown

Hi Karen! I wanted to tell you that I crate trained Bull, but I
decided to try it your way with Piper. Instead of a box, I bought a
"deluxe pet yard" which is like a big pen made out of plastic
baby gate-looking panels. Instead of a round pen I made it into a
rectangle (to separate potty area from eating and sleeping area) Her
crate, a little bed, her toys, and her food and water are at one end, and
a potty pad is at the other. I leave it open so she can go in and out
while I'm home and I close her in when I am not home or can't/couldn't
watch her (since she's been house broken, I just leave her in it when I 'm
gone). It's great! Almost all of the wholesale pet supply catalogs carry
them. I bought the extra panels too, but I haven't used them, it's big
enough without them. She potties in there when we're inside and she
potties outside when we go out. It's great! The cheapest I've found it for
is through JB wholesale (http://www.jbpet.com/ <http://www.jbpet.com/
). I paid more then that through New England Serum. Oh well. I just wanted
to tell you about it. It worked great for me! Ok, here's the
Piper update...(Note: Piper is from GLORY RIDGE) Well, Piper learned sit
and down in one day (at 11 weeks old) !!!! Let the other breeders stick
that in their pipes and smoke it! She's been potty trained since the
second week she came to live with me and has not had an accident at anyone
else's home we visited either! She also loves the water and would be
perfect for water rescue if she was about a hundred or so pounds larger.
She goes to the retirement home with me too to visit my Grandmother and
all of her friends. It's so great that they allow pets there, therapy or
not. Now she'll be ready for certification that much faster! She just gets
better every day! She almost never barks and when Bull barks, she lets out
a little whine, like "Bull my ears, you're being too loud." It's
the funniest thing! Well, that's enough bragging. It's hard not to though.
My friend's father took some pictures with his digital camera and is
supposed to send them to me any time... She's got a bit of the puppy-spaz-face
because I'm letting her hair grow out and it's next to impossible to get
the hair around her eyes to lay down. In another week I will have to pull
her bangs back with a clip... I bet she's not going to like that... Too
bad, I don't want her eyes getting irritated. I bought some tiny little
hair scrunchies to use for her topknot... when she has one... I use them
on my friends Yorkie, they don't break the hair at all and look way cuter
then the rubber bands. I can't wait to use them. I'm taking her to the vet
Saturday for her next round of shots. I can't wait to find out how much
she weighs. She's great and that's it in a nutshell! Carina

Hi Karen, Just a note to let you know how much we love and enjoy the
little female bundle you sent on to us in September. She is a doll and won
our hearts completely. It took a little time for Gizmo (7 years old) to
get used to her, but once she realized the new one was staying, they
started playing. It is such a trip to watch them run and play. Again, you
do a wonderful job and we love our little "Tinker, Too" Pegg

I told Karen that she may use my wife and me as references any time
when it comes to her Shih-Tzu pups. We bought little Cori from her about a
year ago; she will be one year old on the 19th of this month. This dog is
everything and more that Karen represented. She has a wonderful, loving
personality and fits right in with us and our other, older Shih-Tzu, Cati.
We took Cori to our vet the day after we got her and she was and is in
perfect health. If you have any questions, please feel free to email or
phone. Harvey and Michelle Counts (sierra Madre,Ca) email: hlcounts@msn.com.com

Karen,
I hope you are having a good day and your weather is improving. We just
LOVE our puppy! She is so precious. She is everything we wanted in a
puppy. You would not believe how many people wanted to know where we got
her. We took "SOPHIE" to the vet and she said she was very
healthy and everything looked great. She wanted us to wait until 4 or 5
months to do the microchip because of the size of the needle. We have
named her "SOPHIE" and will be registering her as "GLORY
RIDGE TARA'S NEU BEGINNING" if they accept it. I just wanted to THANK
YOU for taking such great care of her and how proud we are to have her.
"SOPHIE" is a great addition to our family! God Bless, Donna

Karen— A year ago, you and your husband tucked little Baby Counts in a
sock and took a long, early drive in bad weather to the airport.
From the day Harvey pulled her out of her specially prepared crate with
her tiny bows, I it's been puppy love. The "socialization team"
did a great job with her and she has not only a "tremendous
coat" but personality and health to go with it. You have been a great
friend this year’s staying in touch in spite of a hectic life. Finding
you was a true answer to prayer -- thanks be to God -- and thanks to you!

Karen, I love this beautiful little baby you
let us have. No one keep their hand off of her. She is getting mighty
spoiled. Lily and her have a ball together. I am so glad. Wanted you to
know we have named her after her mother and your daughter's baby. He name

that took place. We will send pictures in near future. Gratefully, Mary
