Subject: Benji
 Karen,
Just wanted you to know you sold us a male gold puppy the beginning of Nov. We picked it up in Harrisburg.
We gave it to my Father-in-law.  He named it Benji. He is the most adorable dog!!!! We all love it- and he loves them.
I think I'm regretting not keeping it for myself, however we already have a 5 year old Shih Tzu-Millie, we adore.
Anyway, thanks a lot!! Wanted you to know he is doing well!!
Sincerely,
Patrice and Jim Campbell

Subject: From Dottie's ( the Shih Tzu on the rug) Mom

Hi Karen,  This is Vikki Luckman, formerly of Victor, New York, but now back in Indianapolis, Indiana.  I purchased Dottie from you 5 years ago and she is still a beautiful and healthy dog!  I would send more pictures, but she is such a pistol about getting them taken. She is the Queen of the Luckman household. Haha!!
My question is about my 10 year old Shih Tzu,Murphy. She is not a Glory Ridge dog and has enjoyed a relatively healthy life. She had an oxalate stone removed a couple of years ago in New York and has been healthy ever since. Lately we have noticed behavior changes in her, house soiling, not following mommy everywhere, weight loss, tail not as happy, staring into space etc.  The vet took blood and her thyroid, kidney, liver etc. all checked out fine.  She does not have diabetes and will have one more test to check for adrenal health. My gut feeling is dementia or a brain tumor. She has a healthy appetite, but has lost a bit of weight.
Do you recommend holistic therapy, albeit vitamins, minerals, home cooked food? I know you don't recommend raw food and I read about the Alzheimer drug on your site.
I was just curious if you could give me any insight in what you thought her condition might be and how I can help her.  We love her, and feel this came on awfully sudden. I trust your knowledge and experience more than anyone's.  Thank you and God bless, Vikki Luckman

HI Karen

An Update -
This is Potter (Burnie & Ching's born 3/9/04) - on the groomer's table.  He doesn't get a real Shih Tzu cut - he loves to play hard and the long hair would just
get too dirty in NYC.  They love him at the groomer's as does pretty much everyone who sees him.  The owner of the place where he get's groomed is a big fan of this breed and he tells me everytime we are in that he's never seen a Shih Tzu so cute.
Potter is really the sweetest boy and I can't thank you enough for sending me the best little boy in the world!!
    Thanks

Subject: Christmas Picture
Hi Karen,
I thought you'd like to see how our little ones are doing. I've enclosed a Christmas picture of our two bundles of joy. I just wanted to Thank You again for these 2 angels. Since the day we picked them up at the airport, they've brought us nothing but happiness to our lives, they're our bundles of joy :) Everyone seems to Love the 2 of them also, everywhere we go no-one can resist petting them, we've had nothing but excellent comments about their coats and personality. Thank You for everything, you've been the best breeder that I've worked with, you're very trustworthy helpful, personable and I have no complaints of your swift responses. Your website says it all, very informative, no-one else can compare!  I've referred you to many friends that are thinking of getting a Shih-Tzu of their own.

Potty training for Mac (the pup) is going well, his sister, Roxy has been giving him some tips & pointers on where to go & not to go. I just love seeing the 2 of them together, they're so funny and adorable when they play.

Btw, we're talking about a 3rd one in the future...

Thanks once again,
Elza & Richard Barba

Subject: Tashawna

I just wanted to let you know how much we have been enjoying Tashawna whom we adopted from you in December of 96. I am attaching a recent picture of her. She is one of the most healthy dogs I have ever seen and boy can she hold her own even with the big dogs we meet in the park. She is bossy and secure, even telling Zachary when he's had enough dinner. Take care, and have happy holidays. Love Brandy

Subject: Barney Pictures
Dear Karen,We just finished dumping a bunch of pictures off of our camera and sending them to family, and I thought this would be a good time to let you know that Barney is the toast of the RV park, my mother doesn’t care if I come to see her unless I bring Barney, and every man I know is absolutely nuts about him!
I won’t go into how long it took him to figure out that it was his job to let us KNOW he needed to go potty!!!  He could sit, lay down, stay, come, not eat treats right in front of his nose until we said “ok”, and go to his crate on command lonnnnng before he could let us know he needed to go outside!!!  The “bell method” finally worked.  Whew!
About 8 lbs now, he is spoiled rotten, though training well for his age.  Yes, there IS an identifiable stubborn streak!  At times, when we tell him to roll over, he turns on his heel and tries to walk away!!! LOL  What a jolly time the Lord must have had creating the blueprints for these little guys!!!!  He is starting to accept and even enjoy his daily grooming after lots of treats and trial and error on my part.  I’ve never dealt with HAIR like this!!!!!   Pet Silk products have really made a huge difference.  Before I got them, he resembled a slightly sticky feeling version of a lambs wool duster!!!!!  The last couple of days before his weekly bath were horrible.  He stays cleaner now and easier to groom.  However, may I mention that the only way he knows how to express the slightest displeasure is to SCREAM????  Bath time is very special…..sigh.  It was a LITTLE better last week.  I never dreamed water could hurt so much…..at first I thought I must have been doing something awful.  Now I realize HE is awful!!!
J  I’m starting to look for a groomer to get his first real haircut and feel like I should ask if they have a soundproof room for bathing.
He IS a brat.  Dog bones, cookies, etc. are flat beneath him.  I even bought some from the dog bakery and he wouldn’t touch them.  The ONLY things he recognizes as worthy treats are salmon, homemade dried calves liver treats that we dry ourselves (purchased from the health food market, of course) left over scrambled eggs (mostly whites), and veggies.  Fortunately, he seems to prefer HEALTHY food!!!
He is doing fine on Pedigree, but I seem to remember you talking about how well your dogs did – especially their coats – on the National Brand? The climate here is SO dry that I wonder if that would be a help. I would like to try some and be sure he would eat it before I order a bag.  Any ideas where I could get a sample, or is it likely that he would go for it?
One other question:  Insurance.  I know we can get it through AKC and will do so unless there is another recommendation you would make.  We have become aware that we would probably mortgage ourselves to take care of this little snot!!!!
By the way – the panty hose tip was AWESOME!!!!!  I take two old pairs and use three legs to make a tug braid that holds up really well.    He loves them!! (note the tie around the skunk!)
Anyway, thank you again for what you do and for the joy that Barney has brought not only into our lives, but to others who look forward to seeing him.  I am giving some thought to having him trained for therapy.  It is amazing how people just start smiling at the sight of him.  That is often, since he goes almost everywhere we go that we can legally take him!!!
A merry, blessed Christmas to you and yours! Cheryl Peck

Karen,
I knew he would be a blessing but, WOW...what a little guy...
As soon as we got home I took him out to potty. He immediately did both..He is so calm. Crawled right into his bed. He's a great little eater and loves his toys. It snowed last night so I got out the pee pads & he has gone every time I say potty. He really acts like he knows what I am talking about. We are amazed! I really wasn't planning on expecting much until he he is 12 weeks old....but he is doing so well.. he may be trained by then.
He is so adorable. The cutest & most beautiful puppy I have ever seen.
Thank you for everything and God Bless you and your family,
.Denise

Subject: Halloween pictures of Charlie
Hi Karen,
I hope this finds you well and I'm sure you got a barrage of emails and pictures of all the doggies dressed up so I of course needed to share ours with you as well.

I can't tell you how many people complement us on what a fabulous dog Charlie is (from Rosey and Zinger)  People always want to know if he is going to have any puppies because they want one just like him.  If that isn't a testament to the quality shih tzu you breed then someone doesn't know what they should be getting in a beautiful shih tzu!

Charlie is an extremely spoiled dog.  He goes to work with me every day and sees our clients all day long.  He spends most of the time laying on my desk getting belly rubs all day from the clients.  He is the office mascot for sure!  When Charlie isn't with me (like when he's off getting groomed) everyone always asks for him.  He really is missed when he's not around.  I'm so lucky that he is mine to take home!

Anyhow, just a bit of an update on Charlie.  My husband is thinking he might want to extend our family so another shih tzu might be in our near future.  If so, we'll definitely be calling you no doubt!

Thanks again Karen for giving us the most amazing love of our life, our baby dog Charlie!

Cyndi Raymond Solorio

Hi Karen,
Well Friday was Chester’s (Doo & Reilly’s Pup) 1st Birthday and I can’t tell you how wonderful it’s been to have him for almost a year already.  He has been an incredible blessing to this family and is the healthiest and happiest puppy you can imagine.  I guess he’s not a puppy anymore but he’s definitely still my baby.  Regardless of how my day has been I know that’s he’s home waiting for me and the moment I see him running to me with that little tail wagging my mood completely changes.  Thank you Karen for providing me with the perfect addition to my family.   Arlene-

Hello Karen,
I thought you might like to see my babies from Lala and Riggs!!!  They are adorable.  As you can see Beau hates to have his hair put up and wont leave it.  Fancy doesn't mind her bow, but he works on taking it out for her.  They are so funny.  He is my little wind up doll !!.  Absolutely adorable.  They are very little but still 8.5 inches at the back.  Born last December 17, and he jumps and jumps to get on the sofa and might make it every 10 trys.  LOL....She is like a cat, and is less stocky than he is. She jumps on everything!!!  My grand children love them.  They pick them up and put them in their grocery cart and walk them around and the dogs let them.  Sometimes I think they will hide and never come out as much and the kids pick them up and if for 10 minutes the grandchildren leave them alone, they are chasing them and trying to get their attention!  LOL  Beau has a little white on his chest like Riggs did, but his hair is soooo shiny black it reflects light.  He is solid black unlike the picture shows in his face. She has BEAUTIFUL face markings, and he has perfect nose and lips when you can see them.    We love them very much and laugh at them often.  I miss my Mother Terribly, and it is nice to know that she got to see them the night I brought them home.  They are in the basket on her lap as puppies 8 weeks old and Fancy is looking up at her.  Thank You for everything!!

Note from Karen: Krista lost her Mom to cancer and I appreciate your prayers for her at the time I posted it.

Subject: Dear Karen,

Dear Karen,

We absolutely adore our 9 month old shih tzu, Becky.  She showers affection and doggy kisses on everyone in her family, especially her 8 year old "sister" Alyssa.  Becky is friendly to our other pets, two chinchillas and a guinea pig, and never barks at them.  She is also very smart!  She (finally) uses the wee wee pad on her own and has figured out that if she goes only a little at a time, she can get more treats!  ( We have had to make the treats smaller.)

Becky gets a lot of attention because my mother lives with us and is usually home.  They have many conversations and keep each other company.  The more attention we give her, the more she loves us and wants to please us.

My husband, who previously declared he liked large dogs, is totally smitten.  Whenever he sits down at the kitchen table Becky goes right over to him and lays between or even on his feet.  I hear him talking to her as if she is his child, and she loves it.

I've taken Becky to my daughter's school to pick her up and all the children come running over to pet her.  The principal wanted to meet her and so we had to pay a visit to her office and then to Alyssa's classroom.  Everybody knows and likes our sweet little dog.

When Becky is in a quiet mood all you have to do is walk by her and she rolls over for a belly rub (she always gets it, too).  She also enjoys being cradled in our arms on her back like a baby.  I couldn't imagine a more affectionate dog.  Her job is clearly  being a companion dog and she does it very well.  A family member arriving home always gets an enthusiastic greeting.  She wants to be with us and yet she can amuse herself by playing with her toys.  Watching her play is entertainment for us.  She is a little clown!

Thank you for such a wonderful, healthy, cuddly, smart dog - a big personality in a cute little package!

Fondly,
Carol Eliasen Finfer

Just thought I would email you on the progress of "Button" who is now named "Rookie".   Being a member of a baseball family we had to keep our image.  So we have "Scout" and  "Rookie".  She was out of the litter of Burnie and Jazz.  She is a mess.  Looks like a little walking rug.  She is 6 lbs. now and is going on 6 months old.   She looks a lot like Bing and Ching.  She is short at the moment.  A little longer than Scout.  She is a hyper little thing.  Loves to play.  She is night and day different from Scout.  Scout is such the debutante.  Rookie is continually embarrassing her.  Scout would never be caught playing or acting up.  We love them both so much.  Thank you so much for providing us with two such special little ones.  I will send pictures as soon as I download them.

Don’t forget my sister is on the waiting list for a female.  You can contact the birth information through my email.

HAVE A GREAT DAY!!

Subject: Thank You For My Puppy!

Hi Karen,
I can't thank you enough for sending me such a perfect puppy!  I got a black & white puppy out of Gracia, I've named him MILOU.
From the moment he arrived at the airport, he was the sweetest little fellow.  He arrived very clean and smelled great. Everyone in the airport loved him!
I know that a lot of people say this, but I must say that Milou is the smartest puppy I've ever seen.  I have had other breeds before, but he is by far the most intelligent, lovable, and happiest puppy.  I taught him to sit at eight weeks old! He is now a little over six months old, and he has graduated from puppy class.  He was the most popular puppy in the class (out of 12).  He now knows many tricks like how to sit, stay/come, down, rollover, shake paws, leave it, etc.  Oh, by the way, he was crate trained at eight weeks; he always sleeps in his crate and has never had an accident inside of it.
Also, I take him to work with me everyday, and everyone in my office (50+ people) love him.  He has become the company's mascot.  He loves everyone he meets and he loves to play with other dogs. Incredible as it sounds, he almost never barks -- though he will whimper a little if I leave him (even if he's with other people!)
In my neighborhood, there are five other shih tzu, but they are not as beautiful as Milou -- or as well-trained.  I groom him everyday, and he is extremely cooperative.  When I took him to a professional groomer, they commented that they had never seen a dog like Milou without any mats or with such a beautiful coat.  They told me "whatever you're doing, keep doing it!" They were very impressed. I've decided to keep him in long coat (for awhile). His coat is unbelievably soft, and his black&white coloring has not faded or changed at all.
Milou is so lovable! He follows me around the house all of the time, and always wants to sleep beside my feet.
Karen, you have produced an amazingly high quality puppy.  Your professionalism has always been of the highest quality. Thank you for always quickly responding to my many questions. I did extensive research on the shih tzu breed and researched many, many breeders.  You are definitely the best breeder out there.  Not only is your knowledge and care of the breed amazing, but also your passion and dedication is clear.  No other breeder has as a web site as extensive and detailed as yours. Keep up the great work!
I would gladly recommend you to anyone wishing to get the best quality shih tzu pet available.
I've attached a photo of Milou (at four months).  Thank you again, and I hope to get another pup from you in the future.

Hi Karen,

I just wanted to share my 1st set of photos with you.  This is MONROE (La la and Rigs kid).  My husband and I just love him to Life!  He had his first puppy cut a couple of week ago.  I think I could've done a better job!  He's doing well, and has definitely adjusted to his new home.  He's very fun loving, and has a burst of energy that just won't quit.  He has plenty of his own toys, but for some strange reason, he loves our shoes, socks, and my pantyhose.  The whole family has met him and loves him just the same.  My 5 year old niece REALLY loves him too.  Once I was visiting my mom, and she (my niece) was over there too, and my brother told her that I was down stairs.  She became very exited and her eyes lit up as she frantically asked...IS MONROE here TOO!!!!???  My brother said, no, just Kenya...She said "Oh" in her regular tone, and continued doing what she was doing.  :)

Thanks again Karen for such a beautiful fun loving puppy.  Every where I go, I'm sure to tell someone about you and Glory ridge and your beautiful doggies!  I'll keep in touch.

Sincerely,
Kenya Washington

Hi Karen I know this is going to sound like all the other letters you receive bur this little  puppy is so great!!  She has totally made herself at home and my Mattie is doing fine with her—actually great.  I have never seen a puppy sniff for the wee wee pads, intentionally!!!! It makes me wonder if you had already started that training.  But best of all is her “sweet” personality.  All of my pets are very independent and have never been snugglers -darn- but I think the pattern has been broke!!!   Anyway, you have got the right stuff at GLORY RIDGE  and I am telling everyone about you.

So happy to put faces with names, Karen and Joe.  God bless you and your family for taking the time and putting in the love to breed such wonderful little companions.

Subject: Hello!

Hi Karen, Its been some time since I last corresponded with you, so I thought Id let you know that you and your family are still in my prayers.  Tierney (the shy pup) has turned into an adorable 8-month old spitfire!  Originally she took to my husband, but lately she has decided that I am her favorite (after-work treats and walks probably stole her heart).  She is quite active and plays rough with her two older brothers (1/1/2-year old male Shih Tzus).  Her coat has stayed a beautiful shade of dark brown, much like her mothers .  Unfortunately she went through a horrible blowing stage and I ended up getting her clipped in a Puppy Cut.  I cant wait until it grows out, as I plan to keep her in coat.  She is strictly an indoor dog (except for supervised outings) and believe me, she rules the house!!  I have attached a recent picture of her, so you can see the transformation she has made from the tiny 2-lb pup.  Last month she weighed a whopping 12 lbs.

She loves her puppy, thought you would like to see how she hauls her around with her Hahahha.
Lola has settled right in and has stolen the hearts of both my Mom and Dad. Thanks again for this beautiful puppy.

Subject: hello
I purchased one of your lovely babies in September.  Roscoe, he's out of Sugar Plum and Burnie.  He is so handsome and the funny thing is I think he knows it.  He is so smart and when we go outside for potty break, I say go PP and he goes right to his spot.  But the funny thing that happened is that I keep his crate in the kitchen, and whenever he's been out around the house unattended I say to him in my strong voice, "Go in the kitchen".  Well one day I noticed that when I said this he would go
right into his crate.  So he has associated kitchen with crate and if he thinks he's in trouble he tries to close the door.  He treats my daughter like she's just like him on the chain.  She told me once, that he doesn't listen to her and that he only listens to me because he's afraid not to.  During the Superbowl the guys laughed at my little man because he didn't bark and one of my guests said she had a Shih Tzu but he barked and snapped at everyone.  I asked her if he was mixed and she said she didn't know but she knew that my dog was the total opposite of the dog that she had.  Well it turned out that her dog was mixed with a poodle, which explains everything.  She will be calling you for a Roscoe soon.  I just really appreciate your website and the availability you offer to us owners.  You are truely a personable business woman who clearly loves the Lord.
 Thanks again and God Bless

P.S. Pictures will follow soon.

Karen, I took Whitney to my regular vet last week.  My vet had not seen Whitney before and wanted to know where I bought her, she said "you found a wonderful breeder".  She said, " I don't know what you had to pay but whatever it was, you sure got your money's worth".  She is perfect.  People just rave about her beautiful dark red, thick coat, darling face, great conformation and friendly personality.  She loves everyone.  The only problem I have is; I need to have her around other dogs because everyone I know have huge dogs and she wants to stay right with me.  I will get her in puppy school as soon as she has finished her shots.  Big dogs barking, are like thunder to her.  She was 13-1/2 weeks and weighed 3-1/2 pounds, so I definitely think she will remain on the smaller size.  How right you were, someone has already asked if I would consider breeding her with their male.  How nice it is to say, that has already been taken care of.  My neighbors, had out of town company yesterday and I don't think they had ever seen a ShihTzu but they were in love immediately.  They thought they would buy one.  I told them, if you just pick up the paper and look at an add, don't assume that those puppies will grow and look like Whitney.  You might luck out for a small price but I have seen very cute puppies, that, in a few months had horrible bites, bug eyes and sparse coats and bad dispositions.  She has brought so much joy in my life and I still can't believe I got a puppy that looks exactly like my ideal was.  Hope to have more pictures on the way soon, in a different format.  Thanks again for raising a perfect (and perfectly spoiled) puppy for me.   Pat

Subject: Chester's (Doo & Reilly Pup)

Hi Karen,

I just wanted to e-mail you and let you know that Chester (Doo & Reilly's puppy) is doing great.  When we went for his 12-week check-up everyone fell in love with him. He is the most loving puppy...he loves running, jumping or just hanging around with his toys.  I didn't realize how much he would change my life...I love being around him because he just makes me laugh at all of the silly things he does and his expressions.  He is so incredibly friendly and everyone who comes in contact with him falls in love.  Also, for those who still doubt the spay/neutering process at 7-weeks, I made sure to ask my Vet about it and she confirmed that there is absolutely nothing wrong with that and she was actually impressed with the fact that I had found a breeder that was responsible enough to make sure her lines were not compromised by unauthorized breeding.

He has pretty much wrapped us around his little paw and we just love him immensely.  My Mom has fallen in love with him and is already spoiling him rotten. I've attached pictures of him and I'll send you updates as he grows.  Once again, Karen thank you for our bundle of joy.

I just wanted to write and let you know that Raven is doing so well.
She is so well adjusted.  Everyone that sees her remarks on her beautiful
coat--it is so thick and shiny and soft!  I took her for her vet visit and
the vet said that she was the best looking Shih Tzu he had ever seen--he
too was amazed by her wonderful coat.  He was also VERY impressed that she
was already spayed--he said that he wished all his clients would do that.
All the employees at the clinic had to come in and play with her---she
LOVED all the attention she was getting.
She is so well socialized.....she definitely doesn't know a
stranger...my aunts, uncles, and parents have all fallen in love with her.
She also gets along great with my parent's dogs and my friend's
puppy----they play together for hours.  She has the best personality and
she is such a little clown--she is always making me laugh!
Thank you so much for bringing this adorable puppy into my life--she
has definitely made it a lot more fun.  As soon as I get my pics I will
e-mail you a new picture of her.
 Thanks again,Megan Smith

Hi Karen – My name is Lindy Darby and about 8 years ago I purchased a puppy from you.  “Charlie” is the son of  Glory Ridge Golden Pearl and Ishmael’s Neu Beginning, born January 27, 1997.  He’s the love my life and lately we’ve been considering a new little brother for him.  We just love him so much and he’s been the absolute healthiest, smartest and overall best four-legged friend I’ve ever had.  I look forward to hearing from you.
I’ve attached a pretty recent photo of my baby for your pleasure!!  Please feel free to use the picture and my letter on your site you wish to do so.  I look forward to hearing from you !!   Thanks, Lindy Darby
