Subject: Have you heard this?
Dear Cheryl,
I received a disturbing e-mail last night from another breeder who told me not to buy from Karen.  She said that Karen is knowingly breeding dogs with renal disease and that spaying/neutering at such an early age is abusive.  She told me that she is e-mailing everyone she knows who is on the list or has purchased a dog from Karen and apparently she has convinced a few people to file suit against Karen.  She referred me to her web site,( I eliminated this web site address), so I visited it and she has two entire pages devoted to trashing Karen.  I have no idea how this woman got my name or e-mail address, I've never heard of her before, but I am very concerned.  My husband thinks she has some kind of spyware attached to Karen's site and is tapping into her e-mail.  I left a phone message for Karen about this earlier this morning but I haven't heard back from.  Karen has always been so sweet to me and I've never gotten the impression she was anything but honest and forthright.  This woman has also copied a lot of information from Karen's site and has pasted it on her site to use it against Karen.  She is targeting all of Karen's dog's born from Rosie and Zinger, saying that these two dogs are the carriers of renal disease.  She is being really cruel about Karen and attacking her business, reputation and even her family.  Do you know anything about this?  I got the impression from your e-mail that your experience with Karen was wonderful.  I just wanted to check with you as I am really concerned and was wondering if you had heard from this woman - your e-mail address is on Karen's site.
Thanks, Samra

Hi Samra,
My Vet was extremely impressed with Karen as a breeder and thought more breeders should neuter the pets before they leave.  I have been surfing the web for 2 years before I decided to go with Karen.  I watched and waited and saw many breeders go out of business in that time.  Karen was still around with accolades from numerous people.  I wouldn't ever buy from anyone but Karen.  She is great and in the 2 years I have watched I have never seen any reported problems.  I have a pup from a litter that Zinger fathered with Mikiko. This woman is full of beans.  I think because Karen is sooooo successful and good at what she does there are people gunning for her.  Think about it these are people who want to use Karen's lines to breed themselves and because she neuters them they can not benefit from Karen's pups. I think it is time Karen reports these idiots, they are slandering her for no reason.
I know you will be delighted with the pup you get from Karen.  I go to a huge Vet Hospital here in town and they could not get over how beautiful and healthy this pup was.
 Take care,Cheryl

This letter was written to someone who inquired to them for a reference
and a cc was sent to me to post after I was still getting slandered on the web.

Subject: Re: Glory Ridge Puppy

Hello, Karen!
I would be happy to answer your questions about Bo, the black Shih-Tzu I bought from Karen at Glory Ridge several years ago!
First, let me assure you that Karen is one of the most honest, ethical people I have ever known.  She takes great pride in the quality of puppy she sells and stands behind her dogs and the Glory Ridge name.  I understand your fear of bad breeders -- before I bought Bo from Karen, I had already purchased two other Shih-Tzus from a local breeder.  When I finally got their paperwork, I discovered my dogs had not been born at the breeder's location but had been born in Texas and then shipped to Ohio!  I fear they may have come from a puppy mill.  Approximately 3 years prior to buying my Shih-tzus, I had to put my 8-year-old Shar-pei to sleep after fighting his medical problems his entire life.  Those problems were also due to bad breeding.  Like you, I am now very, very cautious about the dogs I buy!  You have nothing to fear in dealing with Karen at Glory Ridge.
As for my black Shih-Tzu -- he is WONDERFUL!  Yes, I can still see the sweet look in his eyes .... well, except when his hair is too long!  He has the most beautiful thick black coat and the color has not faded a bit since I bought him.  He is in perfect health and has the best personality.  I am crazy about that dog!
As for male versus female, I have to agree that in my experience males are the most loving.  I currently have two male dogs and two females.  My males are more calm and relaxed, rarely bark, and are so affectionate.  I would recommend a male.
The best way to secure a black puppy from Karen is to get on her waiting list.  You can specify that you want a black male (or female, if you choose).  Once she has black puppies, she will contact you.  She'll show you pictures of the newborn pups and tell you about their coats and colors (and any other features).  How soon you can get one will depend on how many are on the list ahead of you and how many puppies are born.  She could probably tell you how many people (if any) are on the waiting list now for a black puppy.  Karen will do everything possible to make sure you get the puppy you want.
When I found out how much I would have to pay to own Bo, I thought I was going to hyperventilate!  It seemed like so much money but now that I have had Bo for several years, I think of the money in a different way -- I may have spent more on Bo when I purchased him but I have paid SO much less in vet bills than my other dogs (for whom I paid less!).  Bo was worth every cent I paid for him.
Have you ever shipped a dog?  I had not and was terrified at the thought of shipping my puppy!  Let me also assure you that Karen is extremely careful and has never lost a puppy.  She will only ship on certain carriers and only when the temperatures are comfortable for the puppy.  She won't risk her puppies.  Bo arrived happy and healthy!
Good luck, Karen!  I hope you will let me know if you do get a dog from Glory Ridge -- I know you won't be disappointed!

Dear Karen

You deserve whole hearted congratulations for breeding this magnificent animal!
She's glorious, silly, persistent, healthy, intelligent and the most loving family member. Here is a recent studio photo I took of her.
How lucky my husband and I were when we found your site!!  Thank you just doesn't seem to be enough words to express our appreciation for bringing Cocoa into our lives.  Bless you.
                                           Warmest Regards,
                                                 Karen & Lyn Lindberg

By the way, our friend Christina just received her own Coco from you last Friday.  She called you for a puppy as soon as she saw my Cocoa. She, too is in love with her beautiful puppy.

Subject: hello from an old friend-
 Dear Karen:
I'm so excited to see how your website has grown since our last communications.  Time really flies..I can hardly believe its been 7 years. I am the "mom" of "Luna" born of Redd Butla and Jean's Little LuLu in April of 1997.  At the time, I was in my final year of naturopathic medical school  and preparing for my wedding.  Well, just to catch you up.....the wedding was extraordinary- in fact, I remember now that  I sent you a photo of our wedding party. Luna was an exceptional companion during that last year and traveled beautifully on our trips between Seattle and New York (and everywhere else as well considering I took her EVERYWHERE!!).  After returning home, we started my practice, and had a baby boy who is now five years old. We have enjoyed a busy and  blessed life.   I regret to tell you that we lost our Luna  in a terrible accident in July. I wanted to tell you right away because I know how passionate you are about your dogs, but I have been too sad to even write this note until today. It is said that the cost of loving is losing; and I must say that I am paying dearly. I had no Idea when God led me to you as the source for my puppy, that I would be changing my life so deeply.  My journey with Luna was full of joy, and she was the MOST BEAUTIFUL Shih Tzu that I have ever seen. Everywhere we went people were just amazed at how adorable she was even at seven years old. She was phenomenal with the children and was truly a perfect pet. (Just so you know, she was never-ever ill which is also amazing). I just want to thank you for the part you played  in bringing so much joy into my life through Luna.  When I am ready to get another puppy, I know just where to go. Right now, we are just honoring her memory and allowing our broken hearts to mend. I pray that all is well with you and your family. Peace and Blessings Always..Jsahna Simmons

Hi Karen,

We  bought one of your gorgeous babies and we are loving every minute of it.  She is the smartest most wonderful pooch I have ever owned.  When she went for her check up at the vets everyone came in to see her (all the vets and the vet techs).  My vet said "she has to be the most beautiful pup in the world".  They were extremely impressed that these pups get fixed before they leave for their homes and said "you found yourself one of the best breeders around" and I agreed with them thoroughly.  Please don't stop sending me pictures because I love seeing them all.

Take care,
Cheryl

Subject: Our new puppies

Dear Karen,

Thank you so much for our little darlings!!  They are so sweet and precious!  They arrived safely and were ready to go, once we got them home.  They are so full of energy and curiosity!  They are also doing very well at potty training so far.  When we took them for their first vet visit, the doctor was pleasantly surprised that they were neutered already, and remarked at how quickly the incision healed.  She was also impressed at how healthy they were.  She said that she would take them home with her, but of course we wouldn't hear of it.
We decided to name them "Scooter" (Jazzy X Burnie) and "Merlin" (Doo X Reilly).  It is very interesting to watch them interact with each other and compare their personalities.  We are so glad that we got 2.  It is double the affection for us, and the feeling is mutual.
I hope you can see the photos attached.  Again, thank you for these wonderful little sweeties!
Wishing you a Happy and Blessed New Year,
 Anne and Mark Saulter

Karen-

Thank you so much for sending us the perfect puppy.  I wanted to write sooner but I have barely come up for air.  Ella is 12 wks today and I can't tell you how she has blessed our lives.  To see my husband on the floor and running through the house with her chasing after him (he didn't want a "girl dog") makes me chuckle because she is a daddy's girl as much as she is a mama's girl.  My husband is a Chiropractor and his partner and his wife just had a baby, so we took pictures of Ella and their baby and framed them to put up at the front desk.  It's titled baby Knutson and baby East.  The patients got a good kick out of that and they absolutely love it when I bring Ella up there.  Everyone that sees her goes ga-ga over her because she's such a beautiful dog.  I will send pictures soon.  She's so funny too.  She will lay on her back for hours to let you rub her tummy or just to take a nap.  Then she likes to play and if you can't at that moment, then she' s happy to play with herself. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that she has definitely captured the hearts of all who have met her.
Thank you so much-
Shelli Knutson

We truly enjoy every moment with her.

Thank you so much for my wonderful puppy.  He is affectionate, playful, and full of personality.  He is such a joy to be around!! My seven year old daughter cant get enough of him.  His coloring is just amazing!  He has already learned to "speak" and "jump".  He kind of rolls over. it is more of a half flop!
I will be sending pictures soon.
Thank you again

Hi Karen-I purchased Lucie (Kissy x Redd) two years ago and wanted to let you know that she is still doing beautifully.  She’s still head and shoulders above any other shih tzu that I have seen.  She is now full grown at about 9lbs.  Her beautiful coat and loving, thoughtful demeanor continue to charm everyone. Thanks again for giving us a beautiful loving little pup.

Hi Karen
Just wanted to drop you a note to let you know how well Wallace is doing. He is over the "potty training" wall
now, and is quite the little ham. We love him so much and can't thank you enough for this new addition to
our family. He brings so much joy and laughter to every day. I am sending you a picture that was taken a
few days ago.... Wallace is a little over six months old now and weighs right at 7.5 pounds. We do not
expect him to get much bigger... maybe 8 pounds?? Anyway, thanks again and God Bless

Hey Karen!

Hope this note finds you doing well.  I still check your website and love looking at the adorable pics that people send in.  Here's one of Bamboo (from Doo and Oreo).  He is the sweetest tempered dog ever and everyone who
meets him falls in love.  He is 9 months old now and weighs about 11 lbs. His coat is beautiful and full but in this pic he had already received his summer cut.  He loves to ride in the car and he totally rules the house (here he is lying on top of the air hockey table).
Still praying for your dad and your son-in-law.  God bless you!

Subject: Cotton Candy' s AKC Registration Papers / Pictures of Cotton Candy

Hello Karen,  I received the AKC Registration Application for Cotton.  Thanks
I just wanted to give you an update on Cotton.  She is the most sweetest puppy.  I took her out to Target and I got stopped so many times by strangers wanting to touch her and hold her.  She is a very beautiful Shih Tzu her color is turning golden red.  She is going to the Vet on Saturday. I will keep you updated on her.  I send you an email last week of her pictures. I am not sure if you received it.  Attached are some pictures of Cotton.  By the way when I was in target I gave some people your website because they wanted to know where did I get my Cotton Candy from. So hopefully some of those people will be calling you for pups in 2005.Thanks God Bless You

 Dear Karen,
Thank you ever so much for our little furry bundle of joy!  Becky is healthy, affectionate, playful, and a little clown!  She is so well socialized.  Even at the airport, she came out of her crate eagerly and was happy to see us, greeting us with puppy kisses and a furiously wagging tail!  From the first night, she has slept contently in her crate snuggled up to a stuffed toy animal.  And of course, she is simply the most beautiful shih tzu puppy I have ever seen!

Karen, Button is home and settled in.  She is absolutely just precious.  What an attitude.  She is so cocky.  Scout does not know what to think.  Scout has always been a debutante.  She has never been much on playing.  She is very laid back and a lap dog.  Button already loves to play.  She is just too cute.  I took her to the vet and she was great.  Of course everyone had a fit about her.  Wanted to know where I got her and couldn’t believe her color.  She ate like a little “pig” and fell asleep in my arms.  I warmed her buddy pal and she cuddled right up on it and is snoring away in her play pen.    She is going to be just fine.  Thank you so much.  I will send you pictures.  Teresa Dreyer

Best wishes to you.  Surely she will finally just go away.

I have to tell you, I have been so satisfied with my little Holly.  I had to laugh when she put something on there about the dogs will be aggressive, etc.  My Holly is the most docile loving dog anyone could ever have.  She follows me everywhere and is always at my feet or on my lap.  She is addicted to loving you and being loved.  She is 8.7 pounds now.  Thanks for a beautiful, loving fur baby.  I would definitely come to you again for another.
