Please understand that a dog is a DOG and NOT a human. No matter how much you think your dog is your "child", it is still a dog. Dogs are pack animals. Either you can be the HEAD of it's pack OR the UNDER dog. I suggest you become HEAD, PRONTO. HOW do you become HEAD?  EVERY TIME the little angel does something undesirable, you pick it UP to YOUR eye level, restrain it's head and say, "NO!" OR pick him up by the scruff of the neck and gently shake him 5 seconds and say "NO" (this is how mother dogs naturally discipline, I have read in the Merck Veterinary Manual). Then put it in it's crate 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, take it out and LOVE it until the next trial.  This method is called DRL method...Discipline, Rejection, Love.  BE CONSISTENT. Anyway........

THEY WILL "GO" in the crate!!
You MUST train them outside the crate FIRST and then they will be crate broke!

     I suggest you get a large box or use a penned off area of a room with NO carpet to train Fido. Put a bed in one area, newspaper, wee-wee pads or Purina Dog Litter box in other area, not too far from bed.  DO NOT leave feed out all the time; puppy rule is: eat=poop pronto. If you want poop ALL day, then you feed all day. But pup only needs to eat 2-3X a day until a little older, then ONCE a day. Leave water out all the time, unless he thinks he is a fish.  Pups will not be successful at getting the FULL notion until 10 weeks old.  So in the meantime, have patience. When you see him go, say,  "potty" (or whatever). KEEP it TWO syllables and SIMPLE. At 10 weeks, put the pads or what ever by the door you want Fido to go out of to do his "thing". He should be used to going on them by then and will look for his papers.  When you see him go to the papers or sniff around, scoop him up saying, "OUT" and take him and the papers out. Put them in the area you want the dog to go outside. Put him down and say "potty" or whatever your catchy little phrase is for this activity. PRAISE  him when he goes!  After a week or so, he will have the idea and do his "thing" outside without the papers.   Just don't expect him to housebreak on his own if you work.
