These are tips and FACTS I have heard at seminars I have attended.
I am NOT a Veterinarian. These dosages were given by the vet speaker.

WORMS
Worm pups with Pyran 50 every 7 days. 2 drops per pound at birth.
1cc per 10 lbs standard dose.
VACCINATION FACTS
NEVER give vaccines if dog
has coccidia. They won't work!
Marquis will prevent coccidia if given from birth-12 weeks. It works 21 days out
of 28 (life cycle of coccidia). Not
good to Rx e-coli. Need antibiotic.

Never give CORONA to a puppy! Pups get fevers for 3 days of 103, a week after
the shot is given. YOU cannot give NEOPAR if dog has had corona vaccine.
Give ADULT dogs the corona vaccine ALONE and don't use a multiple shot!
NEVER use the same syringe twice. The dead air space holds .1cc and mixed with
another drug can be fatal!
Mixed vaccines (except Neopar) are good for 30 days. REFRIGERATE.
NEOPAR PARVO VACCINE = 100 doses of other Parvo vaccinations! Cost? @ $2.50 a
shot!

ANTIBIOTICS LINK
Improvement takes 24-48 hours
Oral antibiotics get tied up in mothers milk if pup is nursing. Use
injectables.
Straight amoxcillin will not work alone anymore.
Fulbazen: 10 mg per lb of dog
Primor and Sulfatrim (SMZ+ALBON) 10 mg per pound of dog.
DO NOT USE SMZ on shih-tzu or other flat faced dogs... causes damaged tear
ducts,
distroys 8th cranial nerve, and thyroid gland!
I use Baytril and Pennicillin in combination for tough infections and prevention
after whelping. NEVER use Baytril 8weeks to 6 months of age in puppies.
1cc per 20# in adult dogs. WEIGH dog. Over dose causes deafness.
IM ONLY!
In severe infections, give 5mg Baytril/1lb ONCE and
then lower dose 24 hr later to 1cc/20# dog.
Give Q24H once and then lower dose.
NAXCEL is very effective in URI. 1 mg per pound a day.
Always treat entire litter if one is ill.
Straight amoxcillian won't work anymore.
Clavomox is good! 10 mg per pound, twice a day.
Flagyl can cause liver damage and birth defects.
Nazcel 1 mg/1# very effective for Upper resp. Infections.
Primor or Tribrissen ALONE 15 mg/1 lb dog TWICE a day.
Gentamycin (HYDRATE PUPS FIRST) 6-10 mg/per 1 lb dog every 24 hours for 7 days
by injection only and rotate sites SQ r IM.
Amikacin is EXCELLENT and give q24h
NOTE: In wet coughs, you can use 1 mg Benedryl per 1 # up to every 8 hours OR
sudafed .1mg/1# dog
HERPES/Newborn Temp
Care
Crying Puppies. Mothers are immune to herpes because it can't live in over
100 degrees body heat.
But cold newborns CAN get it! You CAN vaccinate bitches with the cattle herpes
vaccine
3 weeks before delivery date. Call 1-877-AGRIMED and talk to the vet
there.
WARM a newborn slowly! Newborns are 90% water and dehydrate quickly!
NEVER feed a pup with a temp lower than 100 degrees! The intestines are stagnant
and
milk will kill the pup! Feed the pup when it sucks your finger. Puppies can only
maintain their body temp 12 degrees above their environment. He has to depend on
Mom or YOU for heat.
Rub and stimulate the pup and
"Booberize" it (gals,put it in your bra if your desperate).
Bright red/pink
bellies on pups can mean a systemic infection.
Baytril works well .1cc (POINT ONE) every 48 hours.
GIARDIA
Give Panacur to bitch 3 days-2 weeks before whelping, 4 weeks post partum,
and give to pups 3 days
right after weaning OR give 5 days to pups.
CAUTION: Causes upset stomach and pups may go off food!
WEANING
Pups intestines cannot live on milk. The need bulk to develop when about 4 weeks
old.
If you are bottle feeding, be sure to get them on solids early!
CLEANING
Oxine kills bacteria in 60 seconds. Used in restaurant kitchens.
ITCHING
For sedation or itching use liquid Benedryl: 2mg per pound every 8
hours.
Liquid 2.5 mg is 1cc
OXYOTOCIN
This drug can stop a labor dead.
I used to over use it and had more c/sections than ever!
DO NOT LISTEN TO VETS WHO TELL YOU TO GIVE MORE THAN
point 1 CC PER 10 POUNDS! Never give more than twice, as it shuts down
uterine arteries
and will cause anoxia to pups! Wait 20 min. at least before 2nd dose.
Never go more than 3 hours between pups.
See red, green or black discharge, GET HELP.
Prolonged labors= problems for pups even if they live.
Dehydration
D5LR 1cc/1 lb X 6 hrs. SQ
NOT TOO FAST! You can drown them!
NEVER USE GENTMYCIN on dehydrated pups!
